  1. I think if I was a manager, and my pitcher had a cold dead hand, I'd be sure to take him out of the game. I see that nobody else seems to know what that C stands for on the MLB.com scoreboard.
  2. It's not reasonable to expect every fan to pay attention to every pitch. The score may be 10 to 0 and you're chatting with your friend. You may be helping your kid put mustard on his hot dog. Or paying the vendor for your beer. Or reading the "fun facts" on the scoreboard. Or any number of things.
  3. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Is that a stadium scoreboard, or some computer app scoreboard. (Or something else)? That's what displays on GameDay at MLB.com. I have no idea what that C column is. Of course, I've only been watching baseball for 43 years.
  4. What do the green dots in the "C" column mean? I'm drawing a blank here.
  5. Ogden Nash would be proud of that.
  6. 12. Centerfield wrote: Great job BG. I think Lagares would have had a great shot at this had he not gotten hurt. He was fairly well ahead of everyone at the time he went on the DL, and retained that lead until some time around the game of April 21.
  13. This could have been the year that Bobby Parnell finally knocked Brian Stokes off his perch, but no... I have to suspect that Stokes first messed with Bobby's neck, and then with his arm. Or maybe he hired Tanya Harding to do it.

  15. I don't think I've ever seen those cards with the extra text stamped on them. (I also have to confess that I don't know what "O-Pee-Chee" is, although it sounds familiar.) I suppose I could have make a blue-bordered 1972 Ike card showing him in a Pirates uniform with the word TRADED stamped across the image, but the 1979 card I used is one that I've had in my pocket for a couple of years, one that was prepared when he was a strong candidate for Player of the Month. (I'm guessing the second half of 2012, but I'm not sure.) I still have one unused card for a player who's still with the Mets. I'll make it public when he leaves the Mets or wins a Schaefer award.
  16. Eric Young was scratched because of an eye injury suffered during batting practice.

  19. I'd consider switching Mejia and Matsuzaka, but for a different reason: to conserve Mejia's innings so that he can last longer into the season. I'd still like to see Jenrry as a starter long-term, although if everything goes well (which virtually never happens!) there will be several pitchers who will be squeezed out of the Mets rotation over the next couple of years. Time will tell if Mejia is one of them, and if so, if his exit is to the bullpen or to another club.

  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think the key to this game is to have our starting pitcher go more than five innings, and give up fewer than seven runs. They didn't heed my sage advice.
  22. It's looking like this isn't much of a "rotation" so far, huh?
  23. SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE MONTH, APRIL 2014 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month for April 2014 is JONATHON NIESE. This is Niese's fourth time as Pitcher of the Month and first time as Player of the Month. He had the best ERA (2.20) among Mets starters, and had a 2-2 record with 24 strikeouts and 8 walks in 32.2 innings over five starts. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is CARLOS TORRES. Carlos pitched in 13 games in April with a 2-0 record and a 1.20 ERA over 15 innings. He struck out 17 batters and walked 6. This is the second time that Torres has received the Schaefer award for the month's best reliever. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for April is IKE DAVIS. Ike had been the overall Player of the Month twice, in September 2010 and April 2011, but this is the first time he has won Schaefer coming off the bench. Ike was traded to the Pirates in April, so unless he returns to the Mets some day, this is likely the last Schaefer award that he will win. Ike's win this month was mostly, but not entirely, due to his walk-off grand slam against the Reds on April 5. .
