  1. I also would rather keep Niese than Gee. Of course, Niese might very well bring a better return, so there's that. Also, from what I've been reading lately, I think Matz may be considerably higher than 15th on the depth chart.

  3. I don't see why the Mets would care one way or another if this story came out. I realize that there are some who like to think that every little thing that happens is some kind of sign of the team's incompetence, but I don't understand it.
  4. One previous Met was NL Rookie of the Month: Justin Turner in May 2011.
  5. Maybe it stands for Most Venereal Player.
  6. And now we roll into August. Voting for the first three games of the four-game series against the Giants will close on Thursday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 8/1/14 - Giants 5, Mets 1 Schaefer POTG 8/2/14 - Mets 4, Giants 2 Schaefer POTG 8/3/14 - Giants 9, Mets 0
  7. I saw Kurt Russell talking about this movie with David Letterman. What's the deal on Matt Franco? Is he Kurt's sister's son?
  8. SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE MONTH, JULY 2014 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for July 2014 is LUCAS DUDA. This is Lucas' second win. He had previously won in August 2011 and, incidentally, was the Bench Player of the Month just last month. Duda led the Mets in July with 7 home runs, 17 runs scored, and 19 runs batted in. He batted .293, with an OBP of .396 and a slugging percentage of .610. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month is JACOB deGROM. This is the second time Jacob has won this award. His previous win was in May of this year. DeGrom was 4-1 in five July starts, with a 1.39 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 32.1 innings. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is CARLOS TORRES. Carlos won with a comfortable margin, helped largely by the 2.39 points he earned in his extended relief appearance on July 1, the day that Jon Niese made an early exit. This is the third time that Torres has been Reliever of the Month, and somewhere Brian Stokes is starting to get nervous. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for July is CHRIS YOUNG. Chris earned a total of 3.94 Schaefer points in July, and 2.35 of them came in games that he did not start, which topped Eric Campbell's 1.73 points. 10. Anyway, I really don't see the logic of holding your closer until there's a save situation.
  11. Has anyone guessed Edgardo Alfonzo?
  12. Maybe we can get Chris Young to change his name to "Hunter Pence."
  13. Voting for the remaining two games from last week's series against the Phillies will close on Tuesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. This will close out the month of July. Schaefer POTG 7/29/14 - Phillies 6, Mets 0 Schaefer POTG 07/30/2014 Mets 11, Philadelphia 2
  14. I'd let Duda play against the occasional lefty, just to at least give him a chance to maybe show he can play every day. Meanwhile, I got home from the movies and turned on the TV just in time to see Brandon Belt finish his home run trot. And then I turned off the TV. Maybe I'll check in again a little later.
  15. Just got back from seeing the movie. I gave it three stars. Fun, but forgettable. I'm not that much into sci-fi stories, especially when the action doesn't take place on earth. For me, the fun of these movies is seeing favorite characters from my childhood on the big screen. This movie didn't have that. And the after the credits scene was, well... I guess I shouldn't say anything yet.
  16. Are there any strong rookies in the NL this year? Or do deGrom and perhaps, d'Arnaud, have a legitimate shot? I think d'Arnaud needs to get his batting average up above .250, which won't be easy at this point, to really get into the conversation. DeGrom's handicap is that the innings limit will likely prevent him from finishing the season.
  17. d'Arnaud 1 deGrom 4.5 Familia 1 Flores 1 Lagares 1 Mejia 0.5 Murphy 1
  18. Colon batted 8th on July 10.
