  1. I would think so too. What should matter is where the catcher is when the runner arrives, not when the runner is 40 feet away.

  6. Or maybe it's a sign that the book might not be worth reading.

  11. Zvon wrote: This strike changed my entire outlook on baseball and for me the game hasn't been the same since. Or, let me put it this way, my strong feelings for the game changed and have remained that way. Not in relation to the game, which I love on any level, but to major league baseball. I've worked my way back to an extent (it never effected my love of the Mets, but I used to be much more involved in baseball as a whole) but the resentment still lingers. It's not the strike itself that pissed me off. Hey, do what you gotta do. But no World Series? Inexcusable. That's me too, except I don't feel resentment, just detachment. Where I used to be a baseball fan, now I'm strictly a Mets fan. I tried watching the 1995 World Series and it didn't hold me interest. Since then, I've only watched one World Series, in 2000. And I haven't seen a single pitch of a post-season game since Carlos Beltran looked at strike three in 2006.
  12. I would have guessed Nolan Ryan too, but I just checked and his last season was 1993.
  13. Wow, this thread has had very little activity this year. Time to post some updates. Daniel Murphy has been moving up a few of the Mets all-time lists. DOUBLES Murphy has bumped Mookie Wilson out of the top ten and is only one behind Darryl Strawberry. 1. David Wright 371 2. Ed Kranepool 225 3. Jos Reyes 222 4. Howard Johnson 214 5. Edgardo Alfonzo 212 6. Carlos Beltran 208 7. Mike Piazza 193 8. Darryl Strawberry 187 9. Daniel Murphy 186 10. Cleon Jones 182 11. Mookie Wilson 170 HITS Murphy recently passed Lee Mazzilli to move into 14th place. If he plays a full season with the Mets in 2015, the Mets may finally reach the point where it requires 1,000 hits to be in the top ten. Meanwhile, David Wright looks like he'll get to the 1,700-hit mark this year. The big 2,000 looks to be about two years away. 1. David Wright 1680 2. Ed Kranepool 1418 3. Jos Reyes 1300 4. Cleon Jones 1188 5. Edgardo Alfonzo 1136 6. Mookie Wilson 1112 7. Bud Harrelson 1029 8. Mike Piazza 1028 9. Darryl Strawberry 1025 10. Howard Johnson 997 11. Jerry Grote 994 12. Wally Backman 670 22. Wayne Garrett 667 AT BATS Murphy is in 18th place right now, but he can still move up a couple of more notches this season, and, if he's with the Mets through all of next season, can pass Keith Hernandez and move into 12th place. David Wright apparently became the all-time at-bats king this season, and nobody seems to have noticed. 1. David Wright 5621 2. Ed Kranepool 5436 3. Jos Reyes 4453 4. Bud Harrelson 4390 5. Cleon Jones 4223 6. Mookie Wilson 4027 7. Howard Johnson 3968 8. Darryl Strawberry 3903 9. Edgardo Alfonzo 3897 10. Jerry Grote 3881 11. Mike Piazza 3478 12. Keith Hernandez 3164 13. Dave Kingman 2323 Also, Jonathon Niese has been around for a while now too. Let's see where he is on some of the Mets all-time lists: GAMES STARTED Niese can move into the top ten next season. 1. Tom Seaver 395 2. Jerry Koosman 346 3. Dwight Gooden 303 4. Sid Fernandez 250 5. Ron Darling 241 6. Al Leiter 213 7. Jon Matlack 199 8. Bobby Jones 190 9. Craig Swan 184 10. David Cone 169 11. Johan Santana 109 22. Jim McAndrew 105 WINS Would you have guessed that Steve Trachsel was in the top ten? Niese is probably more than a year away from dislodging him, but by next year he could get past Tom Glavine for 11th place. 1. Tom Seaver 198 2. Dwight Gooden 157 3. Jerry Koosman 140 4. Ron Darling 99 5. Sid Fernandez 98 6. Al Leiter 95 7. Jon Matlack 82 8. David Cone 81 9. Bobby Jones 74 10. Steve Trachsel 66 11. Tom Glavine 61 12. Craig Swan 59 13. Rick Reed 59 14. And nobody knew it! Probably not even Craig Swan, who is currently clinging to a tie for 10th place. Next up is Bobby Jones (the one from Fresno), and then Jon Matlack, still far in the distance. 1. Tom Seaver 2541 2. Dwight Gooden 1875 3. Jerry Koosman 1799 4. Sid Fernandez 1449 5. David Cone 1172 6. Ron Darling 1148 7. Al Leiter 1106 8. Jon Matlack 1023 9. Bobby Jones 714 10. Jon Niese 671 11. 15. Adam Rubin wrote: PHILADELPHIA -- There's a decent chance Noah Syndergaard's major league debut may wait until 2015, although it apparently has not yet been formally determined, a team insider told ESPNNewYork.com. The reasoning: Triple-A Las Vegas is going to be playoff-bound for the second straight year. And Syndergaard may not have innings left after that postseason experience. Even with missing time for shoulder and elbow injuries, Syndergaard enters Tuesday's Pacific Coast League start at 108 innings this season, including one inning in the Futures Game. He totaled 118 2/3 innings with his Futures Game work in 2013. So he probably has about 40 innings remaining this season. Uninterrupted, Syndergaard would have four regular-season starts remaining for Vegas, plus at least one playoff start. Would the Mets call up Syndergaard in mid-September for one appearance -- if that -- before shutting him down? Or is it more sensible just to wait until next year given the exhausted innings? Syndergaard does need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason to shield him from the Rule 5 draft. So tying up a 40-man roster spot is not an impediment to a September call-up, since he needs to be added soon thereafter anyway.
  16. Jon Heyman reporting that Jon Niese and Curtis Granderson have cleared waivers. No word (yet) on whether Bartolo Colon has cleared. This very likely means nothing at all, but, for whatever little it's worth, there you have it.
  17. Box score den Dekker 1 Murphy 1 Niese 4 Recker 3 Wright 1
  18. I would think so. I believe the umpire is supposed to make his best determination of what would have happened if the fan hadn't interfered.
  19. Well, there's the possibility that it's not compromising his pitching, but he's still running the risk of making it a more severe injury.
