  1. So he's no Tom Koehler, huh?
  2. Dickey was a good guy. Sorry to hear about him getting whacked.
  3. I don't know... it makes sense to me. I can understand not wanting to see the Mets lose while surrounded by cheering fans.

  5. Just follow the Brett Anderson template from NLDS Game 3 and they'll be fine.
  6. If it comes to that, you'll have to fake your own death to get out of that gig.
  7. Wow! That's quite a story! I remember when the Red Sox took the lead in the top of the 10th, people began pouring out of the stadium. I couldn't understand it; I thought that if the Mets managed to make a dramatic comeback, they would have missed it just for the sake of getting out of the parking lot a few minutes sooner. I like to imagine what they must have thought, on the ramps or on the sidewalks outside of Shea, when the crowd erupted and Kool and the Gang started playing. Did any of those people ever again dare to leave a game early?
  8. I just got word from the Mets that I lost the lottery for World Series tickets! Those of you who have been going to the games, how have you gotten your tickets? [list:2id5y4vi]Are you partial (or full) season ticket holders? Did you win the lottery? Buy on StubHub (or something like it)? Buy at the stadium from a scalper? Do you know somebody? [/list:u:2id5y4vi] I'm just asking out of general curiosity. I'm actually content to watch at home at this point in my life. In the 1980's I would have moved mountains to attend postseason games at Shea, but fortunately I didn't have to. I got tickets to one NLCS game in 1986 and one in 1988 and two World Series games in 1986 from having a Sunday ticket plan, and one World Series ticket because I had a friend who had a cousin who had some affiliation with the Mets.
  9. I can proudly say that I've seen every inning of every Mets postseason game since Game 1 of the 1973 NLCS. (Five of the games in person and the rest on TV.)
  10. That's why all the fans are true to the orange and blue!
  11. Someone named "Fowler" shouldn't be expected to ever hit a fair ball.
  12. For Game 6, I was in the Upper Deck, high above first base. As many times as I've seen the clip of Buckner missing the grounder, and of Ray Knight coming home, when I visualize it in my head I see it from my live perspective from the Upper Deck, and not from the more famous angle from the clips. For Game 7, I was at home on Long Island, watching on TV.
  13. Actually, I kind of get a perverse kick out of the Cubs' 107-year drought. The Mets have an awesome responsibility in keeping that going. (They can pass the buck on that to the AL Champs, of course, but they're the last hurdle for the Cubs to end their 70-year World Series drought.) I always suspected that John Franco was an expert on Winnie the Pooh.
  14. I know what you mean. My kids only inherited a fraction of my Mets affection, so I'm not rooting at all for their sakes. But the part I emphasize with is that I'm so glad I had 1986. I see those pictures of 100-year-old Cubs fans looking morose, and I take comfort in knowing that I'll never be in that position! The Mets won at the perfect time for me, when I was 23 years old. Old enough to appreciate how special it was, and young enough that I was able to get completely wrapped up in the experience. There are a bunch of reasons why I want the Mets to win this year, but one of them is so that fans who were too young (as I was with 1969), or too unborn, to remember 1986 will have the lifetime security of knowing that they have the experience of at least one Worlds Championship.
  15. Twice already today I've asked my Amazon Echo to play Lazy Mary.
  16. I agree! The other shoe drops for 29 teams each and every year.

  18. seawolf17 wrote: You know, it's been in the back of my head since the ninth inning Sunday; we were SUPPOSED to win the first two. They were at our park. That's why I'm just moderately worried, deGrom or no deGrom. I don't think we were supposed to win Game 2. Beating Arrieta was stealing a win from the Cubs' column.
  19. Next time Steve Gelbs interviews him, he should just ask, "Seor Familia, how the fuck do you pronounce your first name?"
  20. I'm still not one of those fans. But it's not unreasonable to be aware that things can go wrong, even if you don't believe in fate. Anything can happen in a single game, and the stakes are still fairly high, because there's a significant difference between being up 3-0 and 2-1.
  21. I think only his mother knows for sure. (Someone invite her to join us in this forum.)
