  1. I gathered up a couple of more post-World Series covers, but the field is now locked down. There are a total of 368 covers in this competition: 133 from the Daily News, 124 from the New York Post, and 111 from Newsday. The covers are divided into four groups, and tomorrow we'll start voting on the eighth and final first-round poll for Group 1, February through May. Group 2 gets started on Wednesday. Here are the breakdowns by Group: Daily NewsNew York PostNewsdayTotalGroup 1 (Feb-May)28282379Group 2 (Jun-Jul)27262982Group 3 (Aug-Sep)30292887Group 4 (Oct-Nov)484131120 Newsday fell behind in the counts in Group 4 primarily because they had very few front pages devoted to the Mets in October, while the News and the Post frequently devoted both the front and the back pages to the Mets.
  2. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. The Mets win their ninth game in a row and then head to Yankee Stadium. We see our first example of a Batman theme for Matt Harvey. The Mets lose the first game of the series in the Bronx. Harvey leads them to a win in the second game. Gaffes by the Mets help give the third game to the Yankees. Moving on to Miami, Daniel Murphy hits a three-run homer to help the Mets beat the Marlins. Another example of two papers using the same headline with "KNIGHT AND DAY"
  3. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Mets shut out the Phillies in their home opener at Citi Field. David Wright pulls a hamstring. He's likely to go on the DL. (Hopefully he won't miss too many games!) Mets extend their winning streak to four games and then to seven. Travis d'Arnaud breaks his hand. Jerry Blevins breaks his arm. With both the News and the Post using "PARTY CITI" we see our first example of two papers using the same headline.
  4. We were saying the same thing about Cuddyer last year.
  5. The angst over Colon getting the nod was ridiculous. Amazing that the "same old Mets" managed to end up winning the pennant anyway.
  6. Short Mets Tall Mets Big Mets Small Mets
  7. The poll allows you to change your votes if you like.
  8. Why doesn't anyone on this forum ever talk about me?
  9. Michael Cuddyer is a lot like an AM Crunchwrap. He's better than horrible.
  10. Yes, he'll be an expensive reserve player. I don't think he'll earn his salary, but I think he'll be a good guy to have on the bench and to spell Duda at first from time to time.
  11. Well, rejecting the QO in favor of a three-year contract, for example, gives him more security, even if the average annual value is less. If Murphy accepts the QO he'll have to try free agency again next year, and one year from now he'll be older and (presumably) not coming off a superstar postseason.
  12. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. The Mets open the season hopeful and confident. On Opening Day, the Mets beat the Nationals in Washington. Matt Harvey returns strong in his first start since 2013. Jenrry Mejia gets an 80-game suspension for PEDs.

I'm not handing Conforto the job based off 3 good weeks back in August. Agreed! Let's hand the job to Cuddyer based upon his 4 atrocious months instead! So he did mean Cuddyer instead of Conforto. He's not counting on Conforto and still doesn't think the Mets should add a bat. I don't think I'll be starting a Ceetar-for-GM campaign any time soon.
  14. Cuddyer-Lagares-Granderson? I assume you meant Conforto-Lagares-Granderson.
  15. Ceetar wrote: Signing one big bat that you're reasonably certain will have a good year here is not enough if you lose Wright to 150 AB of Campbell for lose Granderson for Kirk Nieuwenhuis for a month. Having that additional "one big bat" on the team doesn't prevent Wright from getting hurt, but it certainly gives you more depth if he does get hurt.
  16. I remember an at bat that Granderson had, either late in the season or early in the postseason, where he fouled a ball off his foot or his shin, and was grimacing in pain. He was making a "damn that hurts!" kind of face, but then he caught himself and switched to his usual "Hey, everything's cool" face. That struck me as such a totally Curtis thing to do.
  17. One of those names is very familiar...
  18. Centerfield wrote: What if you found out the Mets got Fred and Barney fired from their Pebbles gig? Good point! That would certainly do it!
  19. You know, until I saw these covers I had pretty much forgotten what Zack Wheeler looks like.
  20. I'll keep you posted on every detail!
  21. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Bad news: Zack Wheeler is going to need Tommy John surgery. But that's okay, a scarred Matt Harvey is willing to carry the team. More bad news: Bartolo Colon is going to be the Opening Day starter. Same old Mets!
  22. I just finished eating my free Crunchwrap! I'll say this: it was better than horrible.
  23. Centerfield wrote: Honestly speaking, I'm shocked that the rest of you aren't furious over this. I can't imagine anything the Mets could do that would make me "furious". Well, I guess I would be furious if I found out that they were slipping poison into baby food, or something like that. But I simply don't do anger or angst over the operations of a baseball team.
  24. I agree with that. I also like Murphy, and would be glad to have him back for three years and $40 million. But as you say, it would be a mistake to go to a fourth year or much more money than that. It's hard to say what his market will be. I suppose it's possible that $40 million over three might be the best offer he'll get, but I suspect it might not be that likely.
  25. I hope he remembers to pick up his free AM Crunchwrap tomorrow morning!
