I had totally forgotten that Jay Bruce was one of the players sent to the Mariners in the Cano/Diaz trade.

Those announcers didn't do a very good job describing the action either. "A miss at home and A TRIPLE PLAY!" "Early departure and a permanent arrival!" WHAT??? That was Amed Rosario who screwed up there? Maybe he thought it was a ground ball? I keep thinking that we're not going to miss Amed Rosario.

I'm glad they're keeping Kilome. (My keyboard app wants his name to be Kilometer.)

Nope, the Bo Diaz grand slam was in 1983. What a terrible ninth inning. Four consecutive walks and then a home run. http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=3366&font=1>

Edgy MD wrote: I believe this was part of the season-wrecking five-games-in-three-days sweep. Was that when Bo Diaz hit a grand slam? I don't recall the details of that homer, just that it was by Bo Diaz and that it was devastating. I can't remember the name of the guy on the Giants who hit that three-run homer in the Wild Card game against the Giants in 2016, but I remember Bo Diaz.

Probably for the best. Also, four fewer innings we'll need from the bullpen.

Rehiring Newman anyway, despite more than one warning, is not a good thing at all. https://media.makeameme.org/created/bad-job-there.jpg>

It would be even more logical (and, admittedly, a lot more expensive) to have a retractable roof on a stadium that's built in Denver.

As you may have noticed, we're still doing this! Voting for the first eight games of the season, through the April 14 win against the Phillies, will close one week from today, on Friday morning, April 23. http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/Cast your votes now!

Two things I'm not clear on: 1. Who is "DeVito"? 2. Did the Mets go ahead and rehire Newman in November 2020 after Sandy received the warning?

The Mets have played two games on the same date 503 times. They won both games 105 times. The lost both games 168 times. There were 103 instances where they won the first game and lost the second, and 123 where they lost the first and won the second. There was one timewhere they won the first game and the second ended in a tie, and three times when they lost the first game and the second one was tied.

Mike Vaccaro says the Mets shouldn't send deGrom to the mound tonight. He invokes the memory of Tim Leary (the pitcher) but I'm recalling a game where Jon Niese pitched in the cold Denver weather and he paid a price for it. (Does anyone else remember that?) Anyway: https://nypost.com/2021/04/15/mets-should-push-back-jacob-degrom-start-vs-rockies/Mets should heed Denver forecast for Jacob deGrom's sake National Weather Service wrote: Widespread light snow showers will continue for much of the morning with an additional inch of snow possible by midday. The urban corridor and plains will see many dry hours during the afternoon although a few isolated snow showers may redevelop. Across the mountains, snow showers will increase in coverage and intensity during the afternoon with the highest additional snowfall amounts of between 2 to 6 inches along the mountains of eastern Summit and western Park counties.

Have the Braves removed the All-Star Game patches from their uniforms?
  22. Benjamin Grimm
They should call it. Or if not, give an emergency start to someone else. Let Luchessi start tomorrow in Denver and save deGrom for Saturday.

Well... when I posted an hour ago, the rain wasn't supposed to start until 4 p.m. But now... it's raining. They're currently saying there will only be an hour or so this afternoon, between 2 and 3, when it won't be raining.
  24. Benjamin Grimm
Now the rain isn't predicted to start until 4. It's looking more promising that they'll be able to play today. I just wish this uncertainty wasn't happening on a DeGrom Day.
  25. Benjamin Grimm
Looks like the Mets may need a spot-starter on Saturday, at least if Thursday's and Friday's games get played. (DeGrom is scheduled for today and Lucchesi for Friday.) What are the options? Walker on short rest? Gsellman? Yamamoto? (Where is Yamamoto anyway?) Someone else?
