1. Yeah, I had mixed feelings about the Scherzer and Verlander signings. $43 million a year for pitchers in the vicinity of their 40th birthdays. I'd say that money could have gone elsewhere, but the Mets weren't exactly on a tight budget. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be a much better get, if they can close that deal. (I expect that they will.)
2. I had two failed attempts at the Reds 20-game winner. Apparently neither Tom Seaver nor Don Gullett ever won 20 in Cincinnati.
3. The Verlander trade may turn out to be a good one. Drew Gilbert is considered a very good prospect.

5. Andy Martino is big on Beltran: For Mets' sake, David Stearns should get to know Carlos Beltran and offer a meaningful job The Mets have a baseball genius in Beltran, who should either manage them or have a significant role in player development in 2024 and beyond https://sny.tv/articles/for-mets-sake-david-stearns-carlos-beltranhttps://sny.tv/articles/for-mets-sake-david-stearns-carlos-beltran
6. Am I the only one still playing this? My 17th Immaculate Grid:
7. I'm just seeing this question now. It looks like Cliff Floyd hasn't been guessed.
8. Me neither. Of the names I've heard, I think I'd like to give Espada a try, pairing him with an experienced bench coach. But hopefully the Mets will make a more informed decision than I'm capable of making.
9. The name we're hearing more than any other is Craig Counsell. Former Cubs manager Joe Maddon has reported expressed an interest. Joe Espada is another name that comes up. Also Carlos Beltran. I'm sure there will be a lot to talk about in the weeks to come. So here's a place where we can do that.
10. The people in Stockholm are getting on me to wrap this up before the Tabloid Cover Derby gets started. http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/images/warning.gif> http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/Cast your votes now! Voting for all remaining games from the 2023 season will close on Tuesday, October 17. If you haven't yet voted for any of these games and plan to do so, please get your votes in some time over the next eight days.

13. The ones that don't have team logos are definitely easier. My 16th win:
14. I would imagine that whatever player (or players) were affected, they would have had to have been the source of this, right? Maybe after the Mets released him, Hunter snitched about being put on the list for fake back spasms?
15. I don't know who to root for to fill these two positions. I'd like to see a younger manager, someone under fifty. As for the GM, I wouldn't be surprised if they promoted someone from within. I wonder if we'll hear an outcry for Wally Backman this time around, as we have every other time, or if his fans have moved on?
16. But he seemed to be okay with it. Maybe he found out that his role would be smaller than he thought it would be. Or maybe it's this IL thing. Maybe we'll find out. And maybe we won't.
17. I haven't really been clear on what a GM does when he works under a POBO. Maybe Eppler wasn't either, or he found out and decided it wasn't for him.

20. Aidan may be British. They refer to groups or organizations as if they were plural, even if they sound singular.
21. Okay, so an extension this offseason looks a lot less likely.
22. From the Baseball Reference people: Hi Benjamin, Thanks for reaching out. MLB have now made an official call on this, and the game will be a Mets win after eight innings as you say. That should be updated on our site soon. Best, Aidan
23. I've now sent the same message to the Elias Sports Bureau.
24. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2023/2023preview.jpg> COMING SOON! IT'S JUST WEEKS AWAY! The 2023 Tabloid Cover Derby is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Shirts and shoes are required.
25. I sent this to Baseball Reference. I suppose I should try writing to the Elias Sports Bureau? Do you know what is the final resolution of the Mets/Marlins game of September 28, 2023? The Mets led 1-0 after 8 innings. The Marlins scored two in the top of the 9th, but then the game was halted by rain. According to the rules, as I understand them, the two runs that Miami scored get canceled because the Mets never had a chance to bat in that inning. Since the game was never resumed, it would be a Mets win. But it has remained in a "suspended state", with the standings showing both teams having played 161 games. Neither team got a win or a loss. Could it be a 2-1 tie, as illogical as that sounds? It seems that MLB hasn't made any kind of decision regarding this game. Have you heard anything? Thank you!
