  1. I read a review of the movie in the paper yesterday. The kid's name is actually "Yankee." The baseball has the voice of Rob Reiner and Babe Ruth's bat has the voice of Whoopi Goldberg. Maybe I need to up my price to $1,500.
  2. I think I'd be willing to see this movie if somebody paid me A THOUSAND DOLLARS. $999.99 wouldn't get it done.
  3. Mike Bordick wasn't exactly Mr. October with the Mets: Four singled in 33 postseason at bats. (That's a .121 batting average. For those who don't like batting average, he had a .121 slugging percentage too!)
  4. They wore those caps at the game I attended on September 10. And I found myself wondering when this tradition will stop. I think it was nice when the Mets wore the caps the rest of the way in 2001. And it was appropriate in 2002 for the anniversary. But they shouldn't have done it in 2003. Because now they're not going to be able to easily stop. And after a while it will seem to be less of a tribute than it will a strange quirk.
  5. King Kong on the scoreboard? I love the idea! In fact, if they named it King Kong Park I'd be delighted.
  6. My daughter says I look like the guy in that recent Mermaid movie. Paul Giamatti.
  7. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I'm tellin' ya, all this odd Shea stuff would make a great book someday (the panels, the neon figuirines, the picnic area, the moving stands, the Jets, the apple, the bathrooms, Casey's, the Diamond Club, Pete Flynn, the leaky clubhouse, the Yankees in the 70s, the plans for the roof, the landfill). I'd buy that book. It should be a coffee table type book.
  8. Johnny wins the prize!

  10. The hat is a magician's hat. It links to the apple's original "Mets Magic" theme. I like that it's a remnant of a long-forgotten slogan. It's kind of like the story of how the Dodgers got their name.
  11. That's why I like the apple, because it's so stupid.
  12. After they switched the sign from "Mets Magic" to "HOME RUN", I remember seeing the actual discarded Mets Magic panel in the the parking lot at Shea just behind center field. It was cracked and in two pieces, and too big to carry, especially since it was before I had entered the stadium. But I wish I had gone back and tried to grab it and bring it home. What a great keepsake that would have been! I imagine somebody who was there with a car that day (I had taken the LIRR) ended up claiming it.
  13. Most of them I can't identify.
  14. The lumpy orange one.

  16. I think Keith Hernandez is secretly pleased. In fact, I'm pretty sure he is pleased. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether he's kept it a secret or not.
  17. Today will mark the first time since 1992 (!) that I've made more than one trip to Shea in a single season. Upper Deck reserved seats. Row O. The best I could get on short notice.
  18. A big winter for Omar would mean signing Zito and Soriano.
  19. I remember "Now the fun starts."
  20. Moby Dick couldn't hold my interest. It wasn't as tough to sit through as the novel was, but I bailed on it before the first hour was up.
  21. Wiggy it is. I didn't think that one would require Twenty Questions.
  22. This guy has a much more impressive looking list than Beltran currently has: Led Mets in games with 156 in 2003. Led Mets in runs with 73 in 2003. Led Mets in hits with 146 in 2003. Led Mets in doubles with 36 in 2003. Led Mets in triples with 6 in 2003 and with 2 in 2004. Led Mets in runs batted in with 71 in 2003. Led Mets in slugging percentage with .396 in 2003. Led Mets in on base plus slugging with .714 in 2003. Led Mets in strikeouts with 124 in 2003. Led Mets in total bases with 227 in 2003. Anyone recognize who it is?

But since the page is built by the data itself, and not by me, that would require actually coding the exception, and that's not something I want to be doing. Back to the small print I referenced above, with Bud Harrelson. On Carlos Beltran's page, this is listed as his only accomplishment: Led Mets in sacrifice flies with 6 in 2005. I have a feeling the list will be a little bit longer when the final totals for 2006 are in.

He's not my favorite (Bogart is) and I probably like Tracy, Cagney, Stewart, and Cooper better than Gable too, but I don't dislike him at all. It's also occurred to me that it would be great if he could be brought back to life to play Tony Stark in the 2008 Iron Man movie. (I don't think that's in the plans, though.)
