  1. The other upgrade to the pen, in theory anyway, was Johan Santana. Hopefully, if things go according to plan, we'll be relying on the bullpen for fewer innings this year.
  2. That must have been a hell of a party. I hope the 11-year-old kid got some photos of the boob comparisons.
  3. It amuses me that he might go to jail because he talked about a boob job at a barbecue ten years ago!
  4. Wright 5 Abreu 5
  5. That does it! They should dump all of their high-salaried players and try to regroup for 2009.
  6. I read that Maine finished first among the pitchers. Not sure where he ranked overall. I also read today that Maine, in the last couple of days, got on the Internet FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE. No wonder he doesn't know that his dad was a minor league pitcher!
  7. Is Gotay the guy that he'd bump? Would that leave us with enough infielders on the bench? I suppose Marlon Anderson can be pressed into service. And we do have Easley.
  8. You know, I have to admit, when I saw FIELD written in that interesting font I immediately thought, "Wow! That looks like it could have been displayed at Ebbets Field!" I mean, where else do you see a plain san-serif font like that? Also, I was at first confused by the references to Anne Frank in holychicken's post.
  9. Nobody's going to buy any merchandise with that logo on it.
  10. That would be showing disrespect to a titan.
  11. Not that I know of. But if it was one of a bunch of photos taken that day, then combined with the others it could establish that it was that party. It could be recognizable as Canseco's house, and the presence of others in the photos could narrow it down to that date. Maybe.
  12. According to this morning's Daily News, apparently somebody has a photo of Roger Clemens at that 1998 Jose Canseco barbecue that he's denied having attended. The photo was taken by a kid who was 11 at the time.
  13. Your office is a lot more interesting than mine is.
  14. If that's what Boras will demand, the Mets should take a pass and wait until the price comes down. I'd go no more than $30 million over three years for him. And that's the absolute maximum. He should really get $20 million over three.
  15. That will just make him harder to sign this winter. But depending on how his 2008 goes, we may not care a whole lot.
  16. AG/DC wrote: A mistake here: "I told him not it was Docs locker only Id forgotten he and Doc were teammates for a short time." I think you mean "what" instead of "not." I think "that" works even better than "what."
  17. Now that's a good get! And a good interview. Hang in there, though. Maybe someday you'll be able to work your way up to C.J. Nitkowski.
  18. I would guess that the next team to have a catcher get injured (unless they have a lot of depth at the position) will give Piazza a call. If Castro or Schneider were to break his leg, I'd think the Mets would consider Piazza.

But if Church is no better than Green was last year, then we're not seeing the improvement I'd like to see. The Mets won what, 88 games last year? It wasn't enough to win the division. Getting some real production from the corner outfield spots can help make 2008 better than 2007 was.
  20. My concern is that he may not give us the production a contending team should get from a starting corner outfielder.
  21. Yes, it was. I went to two games at Memorial Stadium back in the 1980's. I had a friend who lived in Baltimore and he drove us there. All I remember is that we parked in some neighborhood and walked past people's houses and front lawns and suddenly there was a ballpark in front of us. Baltimore's waterfront seems like a pleasant enough place to spend your lunch hour if you work in town, but it's nothing that would draw any discriminating tourist. See the aquarium, get some lunch, and get out of town.
  22. AG/DC wrote: I'm not sure there's an "at this point" necessary. Maybe not. At the time, I thought Camden Yards was a neat idea, a throwback stadium. Now it's been done to death.
  23. Cool! (But I do wonder if that sail will make a loud flapping noise on windy days.) At this point, I'm in favor of any stadium architecture that doesn't try to evoke the kind of ballparks they were building 100 years ago. I wish that more teams (including the Mets) had decided to get with the 21st Century program. Rebuilding Ebbets Field is taking a page from Disney, and I don't like it.
  24. Yes, I'm sure that Tex will test the market. When was the last time one of Boras' clients failed to do that?
