  5. ="Nymr83"] the ceremony was for the retirement of "Mr. Marlin" Jeff Conine. Oh brother. They delayed the game for that? A Jeff Conine ceremony could have run from 4:00 to 4:05.
  6. Maybe they look like his wife?
  7. The game still hasn't started yet. What are these "ceremonies" that are delaying the game? Are they celebrating the Marlins' last place finish in 2007?
  8. That one on the right is very cool too!
  9. Top 5th, Phils lead Nationals 2-0, but Zimmerman is batting with one out and the bases full.
  10. Oops. Never mind. The delay is due to "ceremonies."
  11. DELAY!!! How frustrating! (Of course, if the game starts late, I'll be able to see more of it on TV.) I just don't want to see that DELAY turn to a PPD.
  12. The IGT is on the third page before the first pitch has even been thrown. Enthusiasm is always extra-high on Opening Day, isn't it? THREE MORE MINUTES!!! WOOOOOOO!!!! Pretty soon Jose Reyes will be stepping up to the plate! JOSE JOSE! JOSE JOSE!
  13. Looks like the tarp is on the field at Wrigley. Back when I was an Opening Day goer, there was nothing better than seeing clear skies on the morning of the game. Rain is a real downer on the first day of the season.
  14. The sun does usually set behind home plate, but I'm not sure that's true everywhere. I seem to recall hearing of some exceptions to that, but that may have been in ballparks that are now defunct.
  15. The game at Wrigley is also underway, as well as the three 3:05 starts I mentioned above.
  16. Good question! Which way does home plate face in Miami? I have no idea!
  17. Is it spam when somebody only drops by for promotional reasons, even if the promotions are Mets-related? Stick around to join some of our conversations, msilva177. We're not as inane as you might think!
  18. Delayed starts in Cincinnati and at Wrigley and a rainout in the Bronx. Games scheduled to get underway ten minutes from now in Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Baltimore. Let's see how the weather behaves. (Is it strange that the Reds and Indians are both playing home games? Or do they not typically synch their schedules like the Mets and Yankees [and Cubs and White Sox] do?)
  19. Latest weather forecast for Miami: ="National Weather Service"]This Afternoon: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 79. Windy, with a east wind around 22 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  20. Kansas City is hitless in the fourth in Detroit. When was the last Opening Day no-hitter? I seem to remember one, but I'm not sure.
  21. AG/DC wrote: But here's my thought. Scott Erickson hurt himself during warmups in game two, 2004. I don't know if the lineups had been read yet, but, if they had, and Erickson never rehabiltated (some might say he never did), and never returned to the team, would he be part of the great list o' Mets? If he got into the box score, then yes.
  22. We had agreed on it being the lineup order, which, to me, makes the most sense. Remember, a player is officially in the game when the PA guy says his name. I know this is only really applicable for pinch-hitters and, I guess, pinch-runners, but it makes more sense than waiting for someone to touch a ball in the field. They're in the game whether the ball is hit to them or not.
  23. Well, it's not supposed to be music appreciation class. It's supposed to be fun. And if chanting "Oooh!" or "HEY!" entertains the crowd, then that's what they were going for.
  24. And the White House used to be called "The President's House."
  25. It's a lefty-righty thing, I'm sure.
