  1. As we've seen so many times before, there's often a greater consequence in covering up a deed than in committing it.
  2. They shouldn't say such things about her after she put her butt on the line like that.
  3. ="AG/DC"]I think it should open that way. But that's just me. Yeah, but then nobody would give a damn about the rest of the show. That would be okay with me, but Billy Joel might not like it.
  4. I think the show should close with Billy Joel stepping aside and letting Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr surprise the crowd and perform the final number.
  5. If a team decides to punish a player because of some activity (whatever it is) that doesn't break any laws, then they're doing it for public relations purposes. And that's not necessarily the wrong thing to do; these are public figures and the teams are public business. But you have to draw a line somewhere. I can see ditching or suspending a player if it's discovered that he went on a pedophile cruise in Thailand, for example. But on the other hand, the public reprimand that the Mets gave Cleon Jones back in 1975 was unnecessary and it embarrassed the team (or at least, it should have) as much as it did the player.

Wouldn't it be possible for McNamee to take steroids, and mix it with Roger's blood that he might have had from legitimate injections? (cortisone, B12 etc.) If that were the case, then there would probably also be traces of the B12, or cortisone, or whatever. If it's just blood and steroids, and Clemens says that the steroids were added later, then the question is, why was he being poked in the butt with an empty syringe?
  7. Okay, next... How about this guy and this guy?
  8. seawolf17 wrote: Most likely because what he did was illegal, and what Pedro did wasn't. Yeah, and people don't love chickens the way they love dogs. I think cockfighting is cruel and awful and I wish it wouldn't happen. But as someone who eats chicken, and therefore patronizes an industry that surely conducts all kinds of cruelty to chickens and other poultry, I can't really say a whole lot about this.
  9. metsmarathon wrote: what's he supposed to do, go to the beach and dump the bloody syringes? That would be illegal! Oh, wait...
  10. I also have a lot of old crap lying around. But none of it has blood on it. Stuff with blood (or semen, Monica) I'd probably clean or dispose of.
  11. HahnSolo wrote: I thought McNamee gave this to the Feds before Clemens testified? Actually, it turns out that he did. (I wasn't aware of that when I made my previous post.) He turned the stuff in back on January 10.
  12. Disappointing, but it's a cultural thing. And as someone who had chicken for dinner last night, I can't be casting any stones here.
  13. Back page of today's Philadelphia Daily News METS HAVE SANTANA FEVER AND IT'S DOWNRIGHT NAUSEATING NOW HURLING IN NY...
  14. I don't think 31 should be retired. Or 8. Or 17. For most of Piazza's time at Shea, he was in decline. He had three and a half really good years, and then a slow decline to mediocrity. I absolutely wouldn't retire his number.
  15. Oh, and I TiVoed the press conference to watch when I got home, but it was unwatchable. Too tedious. I'll read the best quotes in the paper tomorrow. Watching the press conference was too much like watching sausage being made.
  16. soupcan wrote: I'll bitch about the drop-shadow. Fucking hate it. I never even notice it unless someone points it out. It's subtle, and I think it's kind of nice.
  17. Clearly McNamee is motivated by more than the thought of vindicating himself. Holding back this evidence until after Clemens has perjured himself shows that this is personal. It sure seems like he wants Clemens to go to prison.
  18. Willets Point wrote: Butch Huskey. You can't get more manly than that. I disagree. It sounds more like a lesbian name to me.
  19. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Uh, oh. Could be scary for Rajah that this news "breaks" the second he's done testifying for Congress. Very nice! I hope this is Roger's ticket to jail. (It's interesting that McNamee would have saved this yucky stuff. It's just like Monica and that blue dress.)
  20. I keep forgetting that Luis Castillo is a Met. My brain must be trying to block out the last month or so of the 2007 season. It's nice that Castillo played a role, however small, in helping bring Santana to the Mets. (I remember Pete Harnisch tried to do something similar with Craig Biggio, although Biggio was a free agent at the time.) I had said a few times in several threads this winter that my anticipation for the new season just wasn't kicking in. Now it's fully kicked in. I'm VERY eager for the new season to start. And I'm also very much hoping that Johan pitches the spring training game I'll be attending next month in St. Lucie.
  21. ="A Boy Named Seo"] I believe I've got my UMDB mug shot!
  22. DocTee wrote: I recall an early 80s yearbook photo with a skinny OF (in a white tux and red tie) named Darryl Strawberry. Thought that was pretty funny. When Strawberry came along, I thought back to a classic Mets banner that was displayed at the Polo Grounds: RASPBERRY, STRAWBERRY, WE'VE GOT THRONEBERRY It almost seemed like Darryl's arrival was prophesied two decades earlier. If true, that means that some day the Mets will have a player named Raspberry who will be even better than Darryl Strawberry was.
  23. The first name I thought of was Bartolome Fortunado.
