  1. No, sorry. That's his twin brother Tyler Santana.
  2. The only thing true in those descriptions is that the blue cap is used exclusively at home. The other two caps appear both at home and on the road. I wonder, when was the last time the Mets wore a blue cap in a road game? I'm guessing it was 1997.
  3. Matt Lawton never played for the Mets in June.

  5. I don't know if this is anything new, or if it's significant in any way, but... This morning I got a promotional e-mail from MLB.com Shop about their Cooperstown Collection. I clicked on the link, clicked around, and landed on the Mets caps section. The blue cap is listed as the "home cap." The black cap with the blue brim is listed as the "road cap." And the all-black cap is the "alternate cap." Have they always had these designations, in name if not in practice? Or might this be an indicator of how the caps will be used in 2008?
  6. I doubt that any team, in New York or any other city, has ever won a pennant without having a single player over 30.
  7. Unless he gets injured or something. But as Namor said, other than in that case, he has to face at least one batter. (I'm not sure if picking a runner off base would allow him to be removed from the game. I'm guessing no.)
  8. Maybe the fielder threw his glove at the ball?

But that wouldn't make sense if, as Adam Rubin says, the reason they're considering dealing Sosa is to free up a roster spot for Register. Lohse would block Register in the same way that Sosa would. Given that, if Sosa is dealt, I'd guess that the number 7 starter is Jon Niese. And I haven't a clue who numbers 8 and 9 would be. Maybe they'll stock New Orleans with one or two veteran pitchers who are on their last legs. (You know, like Lima or Park.) Or guys like Lawrence or Williams. Those kinds of guys are good to have a plane ride away if you need them. (And you keep your fingers crossed that you never will.)
  10. I like having Sosa around too. Would warehousing him in New Orleans be an option? That would allow them to keep Register on the 25-man roster and Sosa can be summoned when needed.
  11. 38 Greg Brady
  12. You needn't spend so much time worrying about mug shots, Steve. Besides, I already have one for Johan which will serve until I get a game-action blue cap photo.
  13. Mets open the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles. Reyes beats out an infield hit, then Clark singles up the middle sending Reyes to third.
  14. Ron Darling says that, if he's healthy, Santana will threaten to get 300 strikeouts this year.
  15. Check out Keith's haircut! I've never seen him with such short hair!
  16. Wow. I remember when it looked like artificial turf was the wave of the future. Now it's going the way of the Soviet Union. At one time the National League was 50% artificial surface. (Maybe more... met me do the math: Montreal, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Houston, Cincinnati. That's half. And San Francisco had artificial turf for a while, too, but it may have been while the Expos were still at Jarry Park.)
  17. Unless, of course, it's C.J. Nitkowski.
  18. Terrific stuff. I especially liked the story about John Milner's bathrobe, and the quote from Bud Harrelson: I have no control of my players, do I? As for the numbers, my 2 is, for some strange reason, Lute Barnes! And my first association with 33 is Ray Sadecki. And for 43, I first thought of Jim McAndrew.
  19. I think, during the NLCS, he was the 2006 Cardinal who annoyed me the most.
  20. Those Cardinals sure do drive drunk a lot, don't they?
  21. Isn't CitiField going to end up taking three baseball seasons? Construction started during the 2006 season, so that seems like the same time frame.
  22. Good! That should have been their name from the very beginning. I wonder if they can also sneak in a clause to require the Rockies to become the Denver Bears and to make the Diamondbacks become the Phoenix Firebirds?
  23. I miss the days when giveaway items weren't marred by unsightly corporate logos.
  24. These are great! I'm looking forward to Part 3.
