  1. Any news on when Pagan might return? Tatis should only play in the outfield when there are no other options available.
  2. Oh, and Lee Mazzilli then said that he wouldn't move Reyes to the second hole. If the new manager comes down to a choice between Harold Reynolds and Lee Mazzilli, I'd pick Reynolds.
  3. On the SNY pregame show yesterday, Harold Reynolds was saying that he'd switch Reyes and Castillo in the batting order. I think his reason was that Reyes would get more pitches to hit if Castillo was on base ahead of him. Sounds reasonable. I like the idea for a different reason: Castillo would almost never be at bat with a runner on base and nobody out. (Unless the pitcher got a leadoff walk or single or something.) That would lead to far fewer sacrifice bunt attempts by Castillo.
  4. I think it's their Florida State League team, which is, as you say, the highest level of Single A. But still... For a while it looked like Dontrelle was destined to be a Met or a Yankee. I'm sure glad he's not a Met.
  5. Amazing that Willis got sent down to Single A.

  10. ="Frayed Knot"]In short, IT'S TIME TO LIGHT THIS CANDLE!! I'd rather curse the darkness.
  11. I don't know how big they were, but my best guess/recollection would be that they were at least four feet by four feet. Perhaps six by six.
  12. I've never heard of this Delcos guy. (Who is he?) He sounds like a jerk, but I do agree with what he's saying.
  13. I'd love to have five or six of them hanging on the side of my house!
  14. I had a dream that I found the shingles, and was trying to convince Frank Cashen to hang them on the faade of Citi Field.
  15. I hope Mr. Met punches him in the neck!
  16. I think it's a sign of poor taste. I don't like mustard, but I do concede that it belongs on a hot dog. (I'm more of a sauerkraut guy myself.) But one thing I learned growing up is that mustard is for hot dogs, and ketchup is for hamburgers, and there's no mixing or matching. The whole "mustard on a hamburger" thing is even more revolting than ketchup on a hot dog.
  17. Here's what Wikipedia says: ]Shea was originally designed to convert from a baseball field into a football field using two motor-operated stands that allow the field level seats to rotate on underground tracks. After the New York Jets football team moved to Giants Stadium in New Jersey in 1984, the Mets took over operation of the stadium and retrofitted it to be exclusively for baseball. As part of the refitting, Shea Stadium's exterior was painted blue, and neon signs of baseball player silhouettes were added to the windscreens between 1986 and 1988. There's nothing in the article about the Jets giving up on moving the field level seats, but what Edgy says about that does seem familiar. I also wonder when it was that the giant shingles came down? Was there a period in between the shingles and the neon? I don't remember such a time, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like we went right from one to the other.
  18. At what point would you say Alec Baldwin went from "leading man" type to character actor? (Or, do you not agree that that happened?) I remember, around the time of "Malice" he seemed to be on or approaching the A-list. But by the time of "Along Came Polly" he was more of a comic supporting character type. I don't think I saw any of the films he made in the 11 years between those two, so I don't know if he made a gradual or sudden change.
  19. I'd like to see the Mets trade as few of these guys as possible. (Unless of course they bring us back Casey Hodges.) The farm system could use a year or two without being purged. The Mets really do need to establish a pipeline. While I do mostly agree with the female breasts philosophy, I think they need to slow it down a bit, just for a little while.
  20. That web page is no longer listing all players on the Zephyrs, as I discovered this morning. You can get the full set of stats at Baseball America's web site, or here.
  21. I don't remember. Pedro Carlos and Omar was as bland a book as I've read in a long time. You didn't miss anything.
  22. And if they didn't have Perez, who would have made those two NLCS starts? Mike Pelfrey? Darren Oliver? I was strongly opposed to Perez' Game 7 start, but he pitched like a champ that day.
  23. He also didn't call for Omar to be punched in the neck. I'd definitely consider replacing Omar too. I think finding a good GM is probably even harder than finding a good manager, but keeping a bad GM in place too long can do more harm than sticking with a bad manager. What about that guy the Reds cut loose? (I can't remember his name.) He sounded like he might know his stuff.
  24. For Jets day, they should roll out the field-level seats to the football configuration. There would be a lot of cheap home runs. The Mets might even score two or three runs!
  25. Voting for the final three games of the San Diego sweep will close on Wednesday morning: Friday, 2-1 loss: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=9208 Saturday, 2-1 loss: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=9220 Sunday, 8-6 loss: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=9229 Sunday's game is still a little short of votes.
