  1. Only five votes for this awful game. I'm pretty sure that that's a low for the season. Anyway... VOTING FOR THIS GAME IS NOW CLOSED Totals for September 24, 2008 (5 votes) Chicago Cubs 9, New York Mets 6 NameTotal PointsPoints AwardedPlayer PerformanceCarlos Delgado20.634.132-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, BB.Ramon Martinez5.131.031-2, 2B, RBI, BB.Daniel Murphy3.890.781-4, R, 3B, BB, SO.Carlos Beltran3.680.741-3, 2 BB, 3 SB.Bobby Parnell2.890.581.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO.David Wright2.450.491-4, R, RBI, BB, 2 SO.Ricardo Rincon1.880.380.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO.Jos Reyes0.980.201-5, R, BB, SO.Joe Smith0.900.180.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO.Marlon Anderson0.370.070-0, BB.Oliver Perez0.250.054.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 6 SO.
  2. If he does I wouldn't imagine it would be more than two or three innings. They'll be starting him on Wednesday, I'm sure.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: If you want to temper those odds by thinking that Sabathia going tilts things towards the Beermakers then go ahead, but we've got a nearly 3-1 shot at playing past Sunday. Sabathia's taken a few turns through the rotation on three days rest, hasn't he? Here's hoping there's a cumulative effect. (I just looked it up. This will be his third consecutive start on three days. He's lost two of his last three starts, including September 16 against the Cubs in Chicago, his last start on four or more days of rest. Sean Marshall is listed as the starter for the Cubs, but he pitched yesterday in relief. (3 batters, 11 pitches.)
  4. ="Gwreck"]Who said I wasn't happy? I'm still bouncing off the walls here (so to speak), 3 hours after getting home from the game, but I can still be disappointed that we didn't get the division. I don't know. "Well FUCK" isn't the kind of thing I'd say if I was bouncing off the walls.
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: Bottom line, if we win tomorrow it's not our last game. That's a helluva lot better situation than when we all woke up this morning. Exactly. While we'll still be hoping for the Cubs to beat the Brewers tomorrow, the Mets can control their fate by winning the next two games, if it comes to that.
  6. Gwreck wrote: Well, FUCK. We screwed ourselves here, first with the gut-punch loss on Wednesday, and then again with the loss Friday. We could've had it. How could you not be happy right now? Sure, there are any number of losses that we can regret, but save that for another time. Hopefully tomorrow's action will make all those regrets moot.
  7. One championship at a time. It's rather presumptuous to be talking "dynasty."
  8. Jerry just said: It's Pedro on Monday if necessary.
  9. Pelfrey on two days rest on Monday? That's a bit scary. But I guess it's him or Pedro. Or Jon Niese or Nelson Figgy or Brandon Knight... I think I'd go with Pedro on a VERY short leash. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Of course, if the Brewers win today, we'll have to hope that it DOES come to that.
  10. I'm getting Phillies-Nationals, which is also important but I'd rather see Cubs-Brewers.
  11. OlerudOwned wrote: This is like Maine's season-on-the-brink game, redux. 5 Ks through the first turn of the order. Yes, it was. But let's hope history stops repeating itself right now. I don't want Oliver Perez giving up 7 runs in the first inning tomorrow.
  12. seawolf17 wrote: All that for one run. (sigh) Okay, Johan. Give me eight more shutout innings. And he did!
  13. Daryle Ward hits a two-run homer in the first for the Cubs. Cubs 2, Brewers 0, bottom of the first.
  14. Wow, that was fabulous. And Shea lives for at least one more big game.
  15. BOX SCORE! Santana 6 RMartinez 1.2 Murphy 1 Reyes 0.6 Beltran 0.6 Delgado 0.6 I'd give Santana twelve if I could.
  16. Sheets has been shaky and we have Santana going today. Reason to be hopeful. I'd really like tomorrow's game to mean something.

Everything went wrong yesterday and the Mets drop a huge 37.5 playoff points. 4 of them go to the Phillies and the rest go to the Brewers. If the Mets win today and the Brewers lose, we should see a dramatic shift back the other way. If that doesn't happen, the Mets are either eliminated or in a must-win-hope-the-Brewers lose situation tomorrow.
  18. I voted no. The Mets have to win twice. Saturday's game isn't any more important than Sunday's. Unless the plan is also to pitch Perez on three days rest on Sunday. Then maybe I'd go for it.
  19. No comments that don't include votes please. Pelfrey 2 RMartinez 1
  20. If Keith was in that photo instead of Buddy it would have been perfect.
  21. Let's get Ryan Zimmerman to sneeze on him.
  22. Me too. ]Dear Mets Fan: Thank you for participating in the online random drawing for the opportunity to purchase tickets for potential 2008 Mets postseason games scheduled to be played at Shea Stadium. While your entry was not selected to purchase tickets for potential National League Championship Series games, you do remain registered for random drawings for opportunities to purchase tickets for potential 2008 World Series games scheduled to be played at Shea, should the Mets participate, and for any additional Championship Series drawings. Thank you again for your participation.
  23. Remember the game last year where, on the last day of the season, the Mets and Phillies both had a shot at the division title. (That's the game, I believe, where Tom Glavine fared rather poorly.) I live and work in the Philadelphia suburbs. I went to work the next day and what was everyone talking about? The Eagles! I was gritting my teeth at my desk. This city ends up with a playoff baseball team? Sheesh.
