  1. My sense is that, if anything, the armpit uniforms would replace the solid whites at home and the road greys. If adopted, we'd have pinstripes, armpits, and perhaps black at home, and armpits or black on the road. I'd rather have the solid whites than the armpits. I'm not sure where I stand on armpits vs. black, but I don't think that that's going to come down to an either-or. I think black will be retained, or eliminated, on its own merits.
  2. I voted for it (the blue trim) on all three uniforms.
  3. Me too. I don't like that in B, the Mets script and the numeral aren't the same color. If the 5 in choice B were orange, I might have voted for it.
  4. I voted for B, because if they must wear armpit uniforms, it would be less offensive on the road.
  5. A or B. No vacillating.
  6. Again, A or B only. Indifference is not a choice.
  7. These are both horrendous, the worst of the possible choices. I voted for A, because it's less horrendous than B. The worst thing about both of these is, I think, the solid orange numeral on the right breast. Both the solidness and the position are awful.
  8. No "I don't care" votes. You have to choose, A or B. (Or else, don't vote.)
  9. Voting for last Thursday's road-trip opening win in San Francisco will close some time on Tuesday: Schaefer POTG 5/14/09 - Mets 7, Giants 4 If you're planning to vote on this game, please try to do so today.
  10. B leading so far, 4-3, among those who aren't indifferent. That was my vote, but I'm surprised. I thought that bright white would be overwhelmingly more popular. Will you be creating additional polls for the other choices we were offered?
  11. From Wikipedia: ]Weaver also exploited a loophole in the Designated Hitter rule by listing a starting pitcher as a DH so as not to lose a hitter should the opposing pitcher be ineffective or get injured before it was the DH's turn in the batting order. A rule was created to stop the use this tactic, allegedly (by Weaver) because it was distorting pinch-hitting statistics. I wonder how often he was able to do this before the rule was changed? I can see, if he was platooning at DH, this would allow him to delay whether to use his lefty or righty until the DH's turn at bat came around. And this would work for home games or road games.
  12. I'll have to see if I can find it. It had something to do with keeping his options open in case the opposing pitcher got knocked out in the first inning. He had found a way (if I'm remembering correctly) to exploit the rule so that he didn't have to choose his DH until the bottom of the first inning when the Orioles were at home.
  13. I voted for B, but it's only a very slight preference. Either one would be great. And the drop shadow doesn't bother me a bit. I didn't even notice it until years after they added it, when it was pointed out here.
  14. What would happen in an NL game if the manager submitted a lineup card with two 3B's and no 1B? The team wouldn't be forced to play without a first baseman. I'm not sure why there's a different rule if it's the DH, although I think it has to do with some shenanigans (there's a word I don't use often) that Earl Weaver tried in the early days of the DH.
  15. I wonder. He had quite a few more hits yesterday than we have people here, so this may be some kind of cosmic coincidence.
  16. I'm thinking Ramon Martinez.
  17. I voted for Gil Hodges, although I believe there's already a bridge named for him in Brooklyn.

  19. Good find! Some of those proposed uniforms are pretty ugly. They seem to be considering reverting the home uniforms to their earlier, off-white color. I'd like to see that. I hadn't even noticed the change until "Shea Good-bye" when the 69ers had a noticeably different jersey color than the 86ers. Here's what I posted in the comments section: I understand the desire for alternate jerseys for merchandising purposes, but please limit the black as much as possible, preferably to road games. Home teams should wear white. Let's see the all-blue cap in road games sometimes too. The black cap with the blue brim isn't too bad. I wouldn't object if it survived as an occasional alternate. The all black cap is awful. I'd love to see it eliminated. I haven't been to Citi Field yet. (I'll make my first visit later this month.) I've heard, though, that it doesn't do enough to honor club history. If that's in fact true, I hope it gets rectified.
  20. I don't think a plane flight is as likely to aggravate a hip tear as it is a concussion, but they do seem to have inconvenienced Delgado unnecessarily. The Ryan Church thing last year was insane. This is just kind of dumb.
  21. My guess is that we'll be seeing more of Reed at first, but I prefer Edgy's idea. Let Murphy and Tatis play first, and Reed can join Pagan and Sheffield in the left field mix.
