  2. Frayed Knot wrote: It's a hit parade!! And Castillo continues to silence his critics - and probably faster than most imagine it could have been done this early in the season. Isn't that nice? I hope Oliver Perez will be able to redeem himself the way Castillo seems to have. Oh, and for the record: I approve of five-run innings.
  3. Great participation for this game. I think this is the first time a game this late in the season got more than 20 votes. (It would have had one more, but Ashie62's invalid vote didn't get edited and was, as promised, disqualified. I believe this is the first time I've ever had to disqualify a vote.) 4. Jerry Koosman, 66, facing possible jail time for not filing a 2002 tax return. He's plead guilty. Maximum penalty is $25,000 fine and/or a year in prison. I do hope he avoids serving time.
  5. Another option for that next start may be Redding, but I hope it goes to Niese.
  6. Fman99 wrote: And I wonder why they don't have cameras installed in the bullpens, and instead force us to look between the fences for a glimpse of the relievers. Those bullpens are absurd. I have a feeling that in the next year or so, the architects will be called in to revisit the design.
  7. The Big O wrote: Putz? With a 5-run lead? Really? He was warmed up when it looked like it might be a save situation. I was expecting to see Stokes on the mound for the ninth, though.
  8. Delgado 4 Niese 3 Parnell 1 Beltran 1.5 Takahashi 0.5
  9. Niese is making a case for himself tonight. Five nice innings so far.
  10. I once had seats in the front row right above the area where the left field auxiliary scoreboards was. (You know, by the Newsday sign.) Mike Fitzgerald hit a ball that slammed into the wall right below me. I was reaching down to try to catch it with my bare hand, but at the last second I realized that the ball would smash my hand against the wall, so I jerked my hand away. I don't know if the ball would have actually hit my hand, but I'm glad I pulled away.
  11. Well, no, I don't disqualify votes for misspellings. They just cause me further work as I have to find and correct them, so I do appreciate when names are spelled correctly. (Some day I'll have to figure out who keeps voting for "Degado" and "Felicano.") If you use a nickname that I can't figure out, I'll toss the vote. Same is true if any player gets more than 6 points. (As we currently have in the Mets 1, Phillies 0 thread.) If someone accidentally awards more than 10 points, which happens pretty frequently, the spreadsheet automatically pro-rates the votes down to 10.
  12. Voting for Wednesday night's 1-0 win over the Phillies will close some time over the weekend: Schaefer POTG 5/6/09 - Mets 1, Phillies 0 We've already had a higher-than-usual vote turnout for that game, but if you haven't voted yet, and plan to, please try to do so today. Ashie's vote still hasn't been edited, and will be disqualified if he doesn't do so by the time the thread is closed.
  13. I wonder how many people who see those cards are confused by the reference to number of years in "O.B."? I know that it means "organized ball" but would that have been general knowledge? Would it have been more comprehensible then than now?
  14. I don't know why my SQL didn't pick up Turnbow in 1996.

  16. Bad week for guys named Dom, as we lose both DeLuise and DiMaggio within days of each other.
  17. I found three four-game streaks. Armando Benitez, beginning August 18, 2001. Braden Looper, beginning May 31, 2004. Francisco Rodriguez, beginning May 4, 2009. That streak by Looper was surrounded by losses to the Marlins where Armando Benitez got the saves.
  18. Former Phillies manager Danny Ozark was 85. The Red Sox Clipper was 92.
  19. Do you mean four Mets games in a row, or four consecutive appearances by the pitcher? If it's the former, I can probably do some SQLing for you.
  20. Pelfrey 4 Wright 2 Beltran 2 Castro 2
  21. My hope for Pelfrey right now is that he go deep enough into the game to circumvent any need for Sean Green. Let's get 6 from Pelfrey, one or two from Takahashi, and have Feliciano or Stokes finish up.
  22. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Pelf's got a nice cushion. Have you been paying attention the last two years?
  23. Six-run leads are very nice. But in a Mets-Phillies game, anything can still happen. They have to keep piling on the runs.
