  1. Down 1-0 in the second, the Mets are threatening. First and third, none out, Santos up. Dropped pop up! A run comes home!
  2. I'm pretty sure that, despite what we may want, the next Mets manager, whenever it happens, will be somebody other than Bobby Valentine.
  3. Let's get Jerry Seinfeld involved! He has all the money. (At least, whatever money Oprah doesn't have.) Really, though, I'm very skeptical about the claims that the Madoff thing hasn't hurt the Mets finances. If that's true, why are they "cash strapped?" (That is, assuming that they really are "cash strapped.") Bad economy? Sure, but that should affect all 30 teams more or less equally. And wasn't SNY and Citi Field supposed to increase their cash flow? Find a billionaire Mets fan and sell the team to him. If the Wilpons are at a point where they'd rather spend less and win less, then it's time for them to go. They've achieved their dream of rebuilding Ebbets Field, and they got to preside over the place for a year. Maybe they'll have to settle for that.
  4. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they found a way to lose the rebroadcast.
  5. Box score Redding 3.5 Pagan 1.5 Francoeur 1 AHernandez 1.5 Murphy 1.5 Santos 0.5 Tatis 0.5
  6. I guess it was a typo... now Stokes is in the game and on the mound.
  7. ]- P. Feliciano relieved E. Dessens - C. Coghlan reached on bunt single - R. Gload singled to shallow center, C. Coghlan to second - B. Stokes relieved P. Feliciano - S. Green relieved B. Stokes - H. Ramirez grounded into double play shortstop to second to first, C. Coghlan to third, R. Gload out at second Wait... what happened? Did Stokes not pitch to a batter? The only way that happens is if there's an... injury.
  8. Tatis just hit the ball, on a fly, over the outfield wall. I find myself unfamiliar with such a phenomenon.
  9. Redding has made it to the 7th! But Uggla leads of the inning with a long home run to left that's just fair.
  10. There was a wild pitch, Santos started heading home, but the ball bounced back more quickly than he expected, and he scrambled back to third base, but not in time. Mets now up 7-1. The Marlins are looking like a very bad team today.
  11. ="Ashie62":176u3nob]relief CY? Without looking I guess not Wilhelm but Mike Marshall Today Cy Redding[/quote:176u3nob] My first thought was Rollie Fingers. Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 12:40 PM Did Ronny Paulino just pick Santos off third? Anyhow, RBI single for The Terror in the Two-Hole, Wilson Valdez. Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 12:41 PM Two-run double for Murphy and the rout is on! HahnSolo Aug 27 2009 12:41 PM "Omar Santos out at home on runner's fielder's choice" Someone please 'splain. Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 12:44 PM ="HahnSolo"]Single, double, walk. Sadly, this might be a career day for Anderson Hernandez. That's "single double, intentional walk." Ho-ho! OE: And Francoeur singles Murph and the Magictones home! This is the best Mets team ever! metsguyinmichigan Aug 27 2009 12:48 PM Jose "Wally Pipp" Reyes might want to get his ass back in the lineup or watch Wilson run away with his job! Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 01:04 PM MANderson Hernandez flies out to left. MFS62 Aug 27 2009 01:06 PM Memo to Tim: Try a different pitch with the guy the next time you face him. Later Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 01:14 PM Redding has made it to the 7th! But Uggla leads of the inning with a long home run to left that's just fair. MFS62 Aug 27 2009 01:16 PM Redding had 80 pitches his last outing, and he's close to that number now. Later Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 01:25 PM Redding pulls up on the stick at 6 2/3. A smattering of applause as he exits with an ERA under six. Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 01:26 PM Redding's beard is a bit much. Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 01:29 PM Tatis just hit the ball, on a fly, over the outfield wall. I find myself unfamiliar with such a phenomenon. Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 01:31 PM They have a name for those. I read about it once. What did he do? Is it like a foul and he has to keep batting? LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 27 2009 01:40 PM What the hell have I stumbled into here? AndyNandy an offensive threat? Fair balls over walls? For US? We're on a hellmouth, aren't we? Christ, we're playing on a frigging hellmouth. Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 01:41 PM ]- P. Feliciano relieved E. Dessens - C. Coghlan reached on bunt single - R. Gload singled to shallow center, C. You know, no matter how many 2009 Mets come and go, it's opening-day Met Sean Green who looks like he's going to run away with Most Thoroughly Baked Looking 2009 Met. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 27 2009 01:51 PM Looks like just a Yahoo! typo. Meanwhile, Pagan ball-over-wall ball. I'm getting frightened now. This isn't funny anymore. Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 01:52 PM That's not your baby, is it? Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 01:53 PM Stokes in for the ninth. All is well, for now. Well, if it isn't, then... wait... what are you trying to say about LWBH? Also, all 8 starters have two hits each. MAJOR disturbance in the Force. Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 01:54 PM I guess it was a typo... now Stokes is in the game and on the mound. TransMonk Aug 27 2009 01:55 PM Only the 4th time this season the Mets have scored 10 runs or more. First time since July 25th. Kong76 Aug 27 2009 01:56 PM That primate is cute, ugly, and scary looking all in one. Mets WIN! Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 01:58 PM metirish Aug 27 2009 02:01 PM Great that they won , but I'd like to see a night win....been a while. Kong76 Aug 27 2009 02:02 PM I'm sure they'll re-broadcast tonight. Benjamin Grimm Aug 27 2009 02:11 PM I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they found a way to lose the rebroadcast. PiggiesTomatoes Aug 27 2009 02:48 PM Five pitchers in a 10-3 game that was 8-3 after 7. Jerry loves his match-ups. Or maybe he was just trying to get the bullpen some work. seawolf17 Aug 27 2009 06:27 PM ="Benjamin Grimm":3fv3ndbx]I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they found a way to lose the rebroadcast.[/quote:3fv3ndbx] Or to see Stokes actually get hurt during the rebroadcast. Edgy DC Aug 27 2009 09:22 PM Enjoy the win, folks. It defied predictions. Benjamin Grimm Aug 28 2009 03:13 PM ="seawolf17"]="Benjamin Grimm"]My rooting interest for this team has been reduced to hoping they avoid 90 losses. 90? We should be rooting to avoid 100. This team is honestly that bad right now. The Mets need to go 5-28 to avoid 100 losses. (I think they should be able to do THAT!) They have to go 15-18 to avoid 90. That will be tough. (These numbers include today's loss to the Cubs, by the way.) Benjamin Grimm Aug 28 2009 03:19 PM If they win one third of their remaining games (which is a pretty bad pace) they'll end up 69-93. I think your 71-91 seems pretty reasonable at this point.
  12. A Florida error and a ground-rule double by Daniel Murphy gives the Mets a 3-1 lead.
  13. There was also something in there about "top talent the alligator."
  14. We can't really expect him to be perfect. Meanwhile, Anderson Hernandez ties it up by doubling home Tatis.

  20. Oh, please. He's a British guy who was invited to a ballgame. That doesn't mean he's a fan. I went to a Philadelphia 76ers game a few months ago because my daughter won free tickets. Doesn't make me a Sixers fan.
