  1. I really doubt that Clemens will ever be elected.
  2. metsmarathon wrote: but the solution to that problem is not changing the park, but changing the approach, and it amazes me to think that this is not the clearly most obvious answer. Exactly. I'm not necessarily opposed to eventually changing the ballpark configuration at some point; there's nothing wrong with a little tinkering as we get to know what the park is really like, but doing it now is, as others have said, too much of an overreaction based on a small sample size. Give it a few years.
  3. I only saw four of them, and the only two I liked started with the word "Up." UP (ani) UP IN THE AIR 2012 CORALINE (ani)
  4. And that's also the winter that the Mets went to woo Barry Zito. And maybe considered Jeff Suppan as well.
  5. It looks like we were thinking about Soriano that month.
  6. I honestly don't remember what the perceived needs were going into the 2006-07 offseason, but I do remember being surprised that Moises Alou was the one significant move that the Mets made. There was something else that I was hoping for, but I don't recall what it was. Here's what we were talking about back then: http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/index.php?ThisForumID=1&ThisMonth=2006-11
  7. I have no problem with Molina as a one-year bridge to (hopefully) Josh Thole in 2011. And if Thole is in fact ready in 2011, then Molina would just be dead weight in 2011 and 2012 if he were signed for that long. One year plus an option seems like the way to go. (One year without the option might be better, but I suppose it's possible that we'll want Molina in 2011.)
  8. To use one of my "favorite" pet peeve expressions, that's the exception that proves the rule!
  9. Pardon the interruption, but... What may be Shea's first comic book appearance was in 1971, in Fantastic Four 133: The Thing was to fight Thundra at Shea, and the battle started there but quickly moved to the Unisphere. The artist, Ramona Fradon, who later took over the art chores on the Brenda Starr newspaper strip, didn't spend any time trying to make her depiction of Shea look authentic. And now, back to our movie discussion...
  10. Well, they both spent a lot of time in Canada. And they're both from the Pacific Northwest area. Maybe everyone who fits those criteria looks like that?
  11. Sounds like "pitching to the score" just a way to justify the validity of the flawed Win stat. It's silly. Even with a 9-0 lead, a good pitcher should still be getting outs. Sure, he can go ahead and give up eight runs if he wants, but it's better if he doesn't. In the process of giving up those eight runs, he's throwing unnecessary pitches, keeping his fielders out in the field longer, making pitchers warm up in the bullpen when they could be resting, etc., etc., etc.
  12. Wow, he was a star with the Rangers during the years when I was growing up on Long Island. You'd think his name would at least be a little familiar to me, but I honestly have no recollection of him at all. (Maybe I would have known his name in 1975 or so, but I can't really be sure of that.) I currently live in an area full of crazed Philadelphia Eagles fans, and I'm not sure that I can name any of their players either. I guess I'm good at tuning out things I don't care about.
  13. That's what I'm hoping.
  14. Omar, talking to Kevin Burkhardt today, downplayed the need for pitching. Would he like to get a pitcher? Sure, you can never have enough pitching. But remember, last year the Mets were picked to win the World Series with Santana and Maine and Pelfrey and Perez and they still have those four guys. Yeesh.
  15. I agree. I'm so tired of the angst.
  16. He's probably kidding. And if he ever does get a divorce, I'm sure it will be so that he can marry Nathan Lane.
  17. What's the deal on Jeff Wilpon's hair?
  18. Clearly I know nothing about hockey.
  19. Never heard of him.
  20. Jason Bay is an honorary New York Ranger. I guess you have to do stuff like this when you sign a Canadian.
  21. The Mets have a retired hockey player speaking at the press conference.
  22. Uniform number 44.
  23. I think, even if the Mets did sign a first baseman, Murphy would somehow manage to get about 300 plate appearances in 2010.
  24. I haven't listened to Francesa since 2005. Has he really been friendlier to the Mets than the local papers have been?
  25. It is curious, isn't it? I'm hoping it's a pitcher.
