Feds Bust WFAN Douche Craig Carton

There's something about talk radio that favors the loudly ignorant and the fiercely corrupt.

But man, a Ponzi racket to cover gambling debts. That's a deep hole to wake up in every morning.

Never been a listener, but the sleaziness just oozed out of him to the point where if you had asked me which radio personality would be involved in a ticket ponzi scheme in order to cover heavy gambling
debts the only reason Craig Carton wouldn't have been both my first and second guesses is that Sid Rosenberg is still drawing a paycheck so he would have moved down to second and third.

oe: he and Francesa have had a long-running feud (at least partly real although possibly played up for spice) so now guess who gets the last laugh on his way out the door.

Carton, who was arrested at his Tribeca home, is one-half of the popular “Boomer and Carton” sports radio show on WFAN along with former Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason. The show has been on air since 2007.

Curious that The Post ignores Esiason's New York Jets tenure.

I used to listen to them years ago, hard to believe the show [crossout:11rncxnk]is[/crossout:11rncxnk] was a
decade old already. I always assumed he was a coke fiend player type.

Four kids with a daddy in the the federal pen... fuck him, I hope he rots.

At least the ESPN guy who got busted last week for being drunk and naked in someone else's vacation condo gets to say; "Whew, I'm off the hook now"

I missed that one. Small potatoes. Why was he drunk and naked in someone else's condo, or was it someone else's wife's condo?

No, it was more like he was so blasted that he walked through the wrong door, and then drunkenly dug in when folks were all "Wtf are you doing here?"

It happens, man.

He was the least cool guy in that movie. Geez.

And this sounds like it's a LOT more than simple ticket scalping. They're talking about him defrauding investors out of millions in a large ranging conspiracy.

He wasn't scalping, just pretending to have a lucrative ticket biz so that other scumbags would give him $$ to pay off his gambling debts. How he got to that level ought to be interesting.

Yeah, this story's going to have some serious legs when it's all said and done. What a dumbass.

Maybe I'm not all that advanced on good fraud techniques, but fake tickets seems like the kind of thing that has like, zero chance of success. You know?

If you're going to go into the fraud business, I don't know why anyone would choose anything other than televangelists. "Send me your money, I'll send you blessings."

Tons of people to be had, and unlike fake tickets, fake blessings can never be proven.

Maybe they should start putting holograms on blessings, so you can know that they're authentic.

I'm learning from this story that I didn't know who Craig Carton was. I thought he was Chris Carlin, from SNY.

I don't think there were ever any fake tickets, so much as fake profits. Pay off the old investors with the new investors' money, and hope and pray that you can keep suckering people in until you finally find a casino that you aren't banned from and hit it big, or die, whichever comes first.

I don't envy somebody who falls into that hole.

Both shave their heads; Craig skinny, Chris fat (and working in Philly, I believe)...

Nah, the least cool guy in the movie was the d-bag who wanted his money back for breakfast.

Dimone did bail his friend out with cash at the German place to pay his bill. But he did sleep with the object of Ratner's desires, knocked her up and bailed on the abortion.

So, yeah Dimone was a total d-bag

Points off too to Arnold, who was supposed to be covering the counter but had to take a piss.

I forgot about the breakfast douche, point noted.

So it appears that irregularities in the Tourette's "charity" that Carton ran is at least part of what tipped the Feds off.
Not that he'd be the first celebrity douche whose high-profile fund-raisers did more to raise his/her own awareness than that of its stated goal. But in this case it's suspected that, instead of the usual
route where the majority of the funds are eaten up by high overhead and limo rides to lure shoulder-rubbing celebrities, these were mostly funneled into the C.C. gambling debt relief effort.

The good news is, now Carton's qualified for a position in the White House!

Was he back on the air the last few days, that would seem quite awkward? I'd think
that someone up on federal corruption (or whatever they're calling it) charges would
at best be on immediate leave.

Posted

No, has not been on the air since getting busted.
But after his first public statements with the standard stuff about the charges being completely false and how he's going to return better than ever, yadda, yadda -- as if he'd be the one to decide
that and not the station -- he submitted his resignation the following day.
