I believe the Mets will be a drastically different team next season.

I'm not sure what Harvey's role could be...but if he's around, I doubt he'll be relied upon for much.

I don't know. I would guess that he'd get around $5 million, if not more. (His 2017 salary is $5,130,000.)

If the Mets really feel that he's going to continue to muddle along with a 5.00 ERA, they may very well want to spend that money elsewhere.

Maybe there's some other team that might be tempted by his upside (if not by his backside) and the Mets could make a deal. But if they do, they won't get much more than salary relief.

Whatever scenario is the worst will happen to the Mets.

Harvey will find the answer halfway through the 2018 season, in time to land a big multi-year contract for himself, but too late for the Mets to get anything of value for him in a trade. Having found himself, Harvey will have 5 straight 20-win seasons, winning at least 3 Cy Young Awards during that time for his new club.

To answer the question, he will sign a one year deal for 2018

Let's see what happens with this latest injury. If it's just a rest and recovery thing the Mets would be foolish not to keep him, the pitches still have life and movement.

Yeah, I think that unless they have reason to suspect he'll not be healthy by both the end of this year and into next then a one-year deal is the likely scenario.
Non-tender occurs if he doesn't recover sufficiently.
A trade is almost the least likely seeing as how it would have to involve him recovering and then re-establishing himself enough for someone to agree to give up a warm body for ... but at that
point there's less reason for the Mets not to keep him unless the behind the scenes stuff is so poisoned that you pull a 'change of scenery' deal.


So I vote: 1) one year deal; 2) non-tender; 3) trade; 4) multi-year, in that order of likelihood

I think a one-year-deal for him to prove he can get back to his old ways. And we know pitching is a commodity that we can't have too much of.

It'll probably be as dynamic a winter as you'll see in Metdom. Like ever Alderson and Collins both have expiring contracts, and whoever takes over will see Rivera, Duda, Walker, probably Cabrera, Reyes, Granderson, and Bruce come off the books on the offensive side, and Reed and possibly Blevins on the pitching side. And with them, a fortune's worth of Fred Wipon's borrowed money.

On top of that, there'll be arbitration decisions for something like the entire rotation (Harvey, Syndergaard, Wheeler, deGrom, Milone), some key young hitters (d'Arnaud, Flores), and a chunk of our deadly relief corps (Edgin, Familia, Ramirez).

As bored as you were last offseason, the coming one should be quite the opposite.

Winter might arrive in a coupl'a weeks in Metdom. (There's a very good chance the team will be sellers -- with a lot of pieces to sell -- as the trade deadline nears).

He's not going to be in a position to get the multi-year contract of Scott Boras' dreams this coming winter. It's mutually beneficial for both sides for him to pitch for the Mets in 2018 and prove his worth.

After that - who knows?
