The Mets head down the turnpike to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phils join the Mets in a four-way tie for first at 3-3. (Atlanta's extra-inning win over the Mets in Game Two is their only win so far, so they remain alone in last at 1-5.) Jerad Eickhoff, a man who grew up with a name that either kills you or makes you stronger, defends for the Phils. Yes, it is spelled "Jerad."

Righthander Eickoff gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Reds his first time out. He's not a star, but he's really steady, and while he doesn't scream #1 starter! at you, he may have the best line of any of your rotation fixtures at the end of the year, like last year, when he went 11-14 with a 3.65 ERA.

Not particularly strong against lefties though. There's that. Maybe Neil Walker wakes up tonight.

Conforto to sit and learn.

It seems to me that five-into-four is easy. Among left, center, right, and first, you have four positions to play five guys at, and each of them can play 80% of the time (more or less), achieving the status of "regular."

Of course, that would mean Wilmer Flores' first base-against-lefties at bats would have to be taken more at second and third. But Walker and Reyes are certainly not making that an unthinkable option.

I'd like a wide-awake offense, please.

It's Philly, expect a ton of homers that seemingly vanish when they get down to Miami.

He damn near bounced one off the Shea Bridge last night. Maybe they want him to learn how to hit one OVER the bridge.

This inning isn't going to convince anyone that Grandy ought to be the center fielder this or any night.

The DP helped, but Jacob's looking a bit deFective.

Control wasn't there but 2 dunkers that better fielders would have caught and he's out in 20 pitches and scoreless. Up to Doodoo here to tie it back up

Just tuning in. Gah, gotta go w/Comcast.

2-1 Phils. Mid 5th.

Bruce went yard, huh? We need the real Bruce this season. That would be nice.

The Mets need to dominate these early season divisional games. This was/is a chance to get a jump on the Nats but being given away.

Reyes? lost. Does T.J. Rivera play 3b?

I think. But play it well? I'm with you, though.

Between the offensive desert and the general sloppiness, this game has a weirdly old-time, Soilmaster-Special quality to it.

7th inning. 3 hits! This is getting ridiculous.

We got something going here though. 1st & 3rd. And Walker ties it with a sac fly!
