Could any man without a job be so guaranteed playing time? I'm the thirdbaseman until Wright gets back, and there's serious questions as to whether that will ever be happening. I'm historically a shortstop and our starting shortstop is creaky. The two guys on the right side of the infield have questions about how consistently they can handle lefthanders. A couple of our outfielders do also. I can play outfield. I totally can.

Aside from that, I'm probably still the Mets best option as a leadoff hitter, though down the hill of life I may be driving. The only thing working against me is that I'm as cheap as the thrift store find I sort of am, so if I get in a slump or exhibit any further moral turpitude, or maybe Brandon Nimmo or Amed Rosario comes on strong and establishes one of themselves as a leadoff dude, I'm as disposable as yesterday's Post.

But for now, I'm rocking some job security. How's that going to play itself out?

145 G, 285, 98 R, 8 HR, 45 RBI, 48 SB. Plays mostly at third.
Out of court child care settlement.

I wonder if any of those words of wisdom inked onto his rib cage say anything about either not hitting your own wife or not impregnating someone else's?
Probably not.

And the days of him stealing 48 bases are long in the rearview at this point, even if he does manage to snag 500 ABs out of this season.

I'm kind of fearful of a big regression for Jose. I think the half-season did him well last year, and by August, I think he will be out of the picture. Either because of injury or lack of production. SS will be Cabrera/Reynolds/Rosario, and Cecchini/Rivera will play 3B.

I like that he has to sing for his supper still, even tough, that may get him cranky and less productive than we'd like at times - seen it before. Also, you never know with his health. I still can't comprehend the whole Macky Shillstone episode, how a healthy young 20something stolen base champ misses an entire year and needs to be taught how to run again etc etc. I've always been suspicious of what we know about his training -- blood spinning, etc. -- and what we could speculate. yyybbb

But I'll be optimistic and predict an OK year: 333 PA, 270/325/425, 7 HR, 21 2B, 1 3B, 13 SB. If his teammates have a good year he will score a lot of runs.

big question for Reyes is probably how many games. That's the interesting number.

I'd prefer he not lead off because of his OBP but he checks too many of the boxes for Terry to not do it.

I'm going to go all weird on this one, and use his small sample size from last year (more walks, more Ks, more ISO) to assert with absolute confidence that he's trying to remake himself as a little more of a power guy and less a speedster.

350 PA. 15 HR, 60 Runs. .256/.320/.460. 2.8 fWAR.

60 games at third, 20 at short, 10 at second, 2 in CF.

Although it's not like anyone else on this squad is busting the OBP-a-thon meter either.
It would be fine with me if he didn't lead off, but there's also no other obvious answer.

yeah, and Reyes is better than Granderson.

I'd probably put Asdrubal up there.

I mean, I'd put Wright there too, but it's not a Reyes question then.

Ultimately the Mets lineup is pretty deep and you're gonna end up with someone hitting 7th who probably typically shouldn't.

I think he'll get a lot of playing time, and be similarly productive as he was last year.

I'm most curious about whether he'll be back in 2018, but that's a question for another day. He talks like he's come home to stay, but it's not at all certain that it will turn out that way.

I figure the same as Ashie, except the heart part. It will never be the
same Jose Josejosejose Jose Jose, but think it will be a quality 2017.
