That's a pretty cool cat! Not as cool as Mr. Met, but almost...

Anyone know what happened to "David Wright can still DH?"

Is he in camp with them? Or is he going around visiting doctors?

I believe he's in camp, he's done with doctors. If I had to wager he's with Barwis in camp somewhere.

David did return to camp. Whatever they said about DH, apparently, as of last week, he wasn't jumping at the chance.

Sandy Alderson, the Mets’ general manager, said Wright would not throw for about two weeks and then would begin doing so gradually. A recovery in time for opening day is most likely out of the question. But Wright refused to put a timetable on his return. He has received medical clearance to swing a bat and play as a designated hitter in spring training games. Wright de-emphasized that, saying his primary focus is to get the shoulder back to health first.

I mean he's a pro and doesn't really need 6 weeks of swinging to get up to speed. Probably prioritizing the rehab type stuff. I imagine him showing up as DH then would be the first signs his shoulder is feeling better/throwing.

I reject the notion that Opening Day is "most likely" out of the question. I don't think he needs 6 weeks of throwing/fielding to be able to man the position. No need to rush obviously, but if he starts gradually throwing on say March 20th, that's still 2 full weeks before Opening Day. And if he sticks to Minors games( I don't know how the shorter DL stint thing works with the beginning of the season. used to be you could back date by about 10 days) you could even take a few more days onto that.

Of course, that's all without other setbacks in the recovery, or other issues.

I respectfully reject your rejection.

I'd say with the amount of time he's missed he would need as many reps as possible, both offensively and defensively, to get timing back on both ends at the very least. You don't just roll out of bed, especially with a bad back, neck, and shoulder and start hitting MLB pitching and fielding your position at more than a passable level. All this stuff needs continual work to work. If he's able to get reps in minor league games, great.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Randazzo before yesterday, for some
reason I thought he'd look older.

Well, he may have been doing it regularly for decades, but not much at all for the last two seasons. And after the fusion surgery, all baseball activities were banned, and for a good while, most non-baseball activities too.

He's going to open in St. Lucie. And the Mets already have a replacement in place for the big club.

Meanwhilst, back to the subject of this thread. Goodman Jacob deGrom has cruised through four innings against the mighty Bengal Cats, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks, striking out four.

His Metly teammates have had no such trouble, putting up four runs in the third on a pair of two-run homers by Champ Stuart and Yoenis Céspedes. Four-nuttin'.

Both teams have a guy named Dominic at first, but neither is Dominican.

Edgin and Rowen split up a scoreless fifth, and Rafael Montero is on to try and continue his good spring.

OE: And a ground single and long double later, the Tiggs are on the board.

Entering the game:
[list:25z0skio][*:25z0skio]L.J. Mazzilli (3b, with Guillorme sliding over to third to replace Cabrera)[/*:m:25z0skio]
[*:25z0skio]Patrick Biondi (replacing Céspedes)[/*:m:25z0skio]
[*:25z0skio]Luis Carpio (replacing Walker)[/*:m:25z0skio][/list:u:25z0skio]

Mazz is getting a lot of PT for a guy that wasn't officially invited to camp.

Rowen is slinging a 0.00 ERA in 5 games now, I believe.

Kevin Kaczmarski in the game again. 25 year old never been above A ball. I assume we'll get 56 articles and posts about him tomorrow?

Nobody roots for a tie!

Among other highlights, the game featured Asdrubal Cabrera doing a great job staying in a pickle for three or four throws, and then losing interest, shrugging, and running off the field without actually getting tagged.

Something got screwy with those quotes up there, Ceets.

To answer you, I don't know of any data that says a player needs x amount of time to be game-ready as opposed to y amount of time.

I just think you grossly underestimate how difficult it is, and how much time goes into doing this thing well at this level, especially after missing lots of time due to chronic injuries.

He went to college and IIRC he was only drafted and signed two years ago.
