Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Paul Lucas has the scoop with the press-stopping breaking news that the Mets are dialing back their alternative home cap, losing the orange brim. Ken Howard's ghost can rest in peace though, because the white shadow remains. In fact, I guess the white shadow is that's all that makes it an alternative cap now.[tweet:2zw4k64q]https://twitter.com/UniWatch/status/823536038865932289[/tweet:2zw4k64q]I assume the other alternative cap with chrome-colored insignia—the one they always seemed to get when Harvey pitched—stays.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I'm not a hardcore traditional uni guy and don't mind seeing experimentation but I don't get putting a white background on a blue cap and making like its some kind of meaningful ] change. That said dumping the orange brim is also fine as that added little also. If you're gonna go alternative, go alternative, you know? All-orange hat or jersey? Bring back the white caps?Elsewhere there a Twitter fire over a guy reporting new official Spring Training unis but they appear just to be new spring training warmup jackets. Who cares.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I tend to agree with JCL. That design seems so subtle I'm not sure I would have even noticed it.I'd be down with white hats but I think it would look funny with the alternative uniforms now that they are blue. I think you'd have to bring back the snow-whites so it doesn't look funny.I don't know.Question, on the days the Mets wear their alternative jerseys, do we also pretend that the inauguration was attended by the most people ever?

The ones with large patches of white.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Nobody won more games than the Mets last year. Period.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 The ridicule has reached a level that I expect a minor league team to have an 'alternative facts' promotion.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I kind of like the new caps. The orange brim was a little loud. That said, I'm not going to pay $36 for a cap.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Thanks Jeff. Now, pleeeeeease, put the NY back in the logo. Please.

Now, if they coupled that with, say, a blue top button, well, THAT'S an alternative cap you can proudly lie in public behind.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I am glad the orange brims are gone.I'd like them to go old school.Home WhitesRoad GraysNo alternatives
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 The orange brim lives -- for spring training!And, yes, the "MFYs" have the pinstriped brim.http://www.mlbshop.com/Caps/search/spring_training/pg/1/ps/72/so/newest_items?ab={wt-static_graphic}{pt-home}{al-cspot}{ct-ST_Caps}
