Where are these guys?

I don't know why you would think that about Nimmo. He's playing.

He may well get activated as Cabrera's replacement, if one is needed.

I am under the impression it was an injured hamstring only and very surprised that it would take two months to heal.

Anyway, glad to see him returning and hopefully leading off.

In an interview with SiriusXM MLB Network Radio on Sunday afternoon, Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson said that the ligaments in shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera’s left hand between his thumb and index finger were intact despite an injury he sustained during Saturday’s game. “We’ve got about the best news that we could from that situation,” Alderson said, adding, “Cabrera’s out for a short period of time, hopefully.”

Crazy idea: it's been 2 days already, there's a day off on Thursday so use the 10-day DL. They were already concerned about him so let him rest.

Here's the thing. The Mets are having a time out of mind with injuries and Harvey decides to just do his own thing (whatever it may have been) when they need everyone to be as sharp as they can.

Dump his butt.

Good news. The Mets have given Matt Harvey three days off to allow his migraines to feel better.

This isn't particularly surprising.

No one has more hope for a David Wright return than David Wright himself, but that return seems further away by the day.

According to Mets' assistant general manager John Rico, Wright once again has been shut down from his throwing program and his only work is with team physical therapists in New York. It's unclear when Wright, who is on the 60-day disabled list with cervical disc herniation, will be able to start throwing again. But it's not likely to be soon.

That makes it unlikely that he'll return to the team before the 60-game mark, meaning the Mets will recoup 75 percent of contract while he is unable to play, based on the insurance policy the club purchased in 2015. The team has been able to recoup a significant amount of his salary the past two seasons because he has played only 36 and 37 games, respectively.

He was on the 60-day DL anyhow. So the recoup (whoop-de-doo) was almost a certainty anyhow.

But I guess knowing that makes it more workable to take on a contract now, if they choose.

September 9th is a TBD promotion. My strong suspicion is that it will be David Wright's retirement ceremony.

I agree but would not bet against the idea.

I don't think David will retire by September, but the handwriting has got to be on the wall. I definitely admire how determined he is to come back, but the odds are looking steeper and steeper. And by that I mean not only the odds that he'll be able to swing a bat and throw a ball, but also that he'll be able to do so well enough to actually help a big league team.

At some point he's bound to say, "I've done everything I can. Time to move on to whatever is next."

I don't believe it's pre-planned per se. But I believe it's being reserved, just in case. Just like last summer's TBD date became Piazza's number retirement.

If something is TBD this late in the season, the odds are that they're saving it for something bigger than a lucky canary bobblehead.

(Watch - the first 15,000 fans on September 9th will receive lucky canary bobbleheads....)

That's an interesting observation anyway, especially pointing out last year's parallel. You figure if DW doesn't pack it in, they could always fall back on some kind of Mets HOF induction, possibly of a dead guy like Rube Walker, saving them the trouble of needing to plan too much ahead of time.

My crystal ball says ... Vin Scully Day!

Born in New York, raised in New York, started his career in New York, and then spent 50+ years on the West Coast working for Fred's Dodgers.

Called Game Six and did so exquisitely. Vin Scully Day.

Maybe instead, on that day the Mets can retire number 2 for Lute Barnes.

Or Bobby Valentine!

Or Mackey

All those Mets injuries? Guess whose fault they are?

Jeff Wilpon. (Mike Barwis, too) According to these, uh-oh, get ready for it .... anonymous sources.

Mets' injury issues go far beyond the disabled list

excerpt:

Multiple people familiar with the Mets' operation -- most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity -- say the team has a less-than-optimal command structure that allows routine problems to fester until they become major conflagrations. Too often, the Mets' approach leads to communication breakdowns, mixed signals or a lack of trust between the team and its players.

"It's the same old, same old mistakes,'' one industry source said. "The Mets are a successful, profitable organization. But no organization, over a protracted period of time, has more significant players on the disabled list. There's a failing across the board. And what changes have been instituted, if any?''

[***]

So who's in charge? Multiple sources said the lack of a single medical point person allows for greater involvement by COO Jeff Wilpon in areas where he's lacking in professional expertise. They describe Wilpon as a micromanager who creates an environment in which the Mets simply whipsaw from one crisis to the next and are too often governed by how their decisions will be publicly perceived.

"Jeff gets in the middle of everything that's going on, and he ends up doing more damage,'' said a person who has been involved in the Mets' internal operation. "He meddles. I can't come up with a more appropriate term.''
