Mets in the Futures Game: Dilson Herrera, who qualifies despite 169 plate appearances in the bigs, goes 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI. He struck out in his first trip to the plate on a questionable call.

Amed Rosario, became the third Mets shortstop prospect to participate in the futures game. The previous two (José Reyes and Wilmer Flores) have returned to/remained in the organization and so make an interesting triumvirate. Rosario also went 1-2 with a run scored.

The one Mets prospect to play the whole game was first baseman Dominic Smith, who went 0-4 but picked up and RBI.

The MVP was Red Sox uber-prospect Yoan Monocada. But I'd've voted for Cubs prospect Eloy Jiminez, who went 2-3 with a double and a homer, knocked in four, and pulled off this nifty catch, prompting a Three-Dog Night/Laura Nyro reference.

But it's politics. It's all politics.

I was thinking that Rosario might be called up around May 1 of next year, to do that free-agency eligibility delay thing. But if Cabrera is still production, Amed may end up waiting until 2018. (Dilson Herrera may know something about how this works.)

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Super excited about Amed Rosario. Gotta hand it to these scouts. He hit like crap for his first three years, but everyone predicted great things for him anyway.

It seems to all be coming together in 2016. Hope he continues onward and upward.

Prediction of a 2017 Spring Training storyline: Cabrera teaching Rosario how to be a major league SS

That would be great. Be nice to find a spot for Cabrera in the org after his contract runs out, too. He seems to have a better head than most and will probably be more valuable off the field than on the field by the end of 2017.
