Certainly looking that way but not official yet. Cleveland is on Lucroy's N-T list so he still gets the final stamp of approval.
I'm kind of relieved to be honest here.

Now rumors have the Mets turning their attention to Jay Bruce although I'm not sure how he's a real fit either, especially seeing as how he'd be gone at the end of the year. At least with Lucroy you'd also get his 2017 season in the swap.

Strangest trade of the year so far is probably San Diego dealing Matt Kemp to the Braves in exchange for Hector Olivera, or at least the contract of Olivera as the Pad's plan is to release Olivera as soon as they get him.

Olivera is the Cuban the Dodgers signed seemingly sight unseen - or maybe they just figured that after surprisingly everybody by hitting on Puig that they had the golden touch and any ballplayer who escaped that island was going to turn out just as well.
Signed by the Dodgers in May of 2015, the 30 y/o Olivera had 75 ABs in the minors (mostly in rookie ball) before LA dealt him to Atlanta as part of a multi-team, mega-player trade at last year's deadline, agreeing to pay his entire $28 million signing bonus in the process. The Braves put him on the ML club last September and again at the start of 2016. But an assault charge put a damper on those plans (hate when that happens) and he's been on double secret probation ever since.

In the meantime this means the Mets will have the still only 31 y/o Matt Kemp to deal with six series per year for the next three seasons (signed thru 2019). As erratic as his career has been it's tough to know whether that's a good thing for the Braves or a bad thing. He's back to hitting for power again but his .285 OBA is a steep drop off his .340 career average or when he was putting up .399 in his near-MVP season five years ago.

And then just to bring this full circle, the Dodgers are paying a large chunk of the contract for each of these guys as they were the ones who signed both to their current deal but then quickly decided they wanted out.

Bruce has a $13 million team option or a $1 million buyout for 2017. Yet, even with the option, I'm not all that interested in Bruce.

MFYs collect Indians No. 1 and 5 prospects, plus 2 oither guys, for Andrew Miller.

Is there any reason Mets shouldn't be fishing the same waters for Addison Reed?

Reading the Lucroy exercised his no-trade clause and tribe deal is off. Of course that's likely a ploy for cash. We'll see.

So, the Mets didn't make any moves today.
They'll just have to win it all with what they have.

The word was that he wanted the $5.25M club option for 2017 waived. I don't know if the deal is necessarily kaput. The Tribe is running away with the AL Central, but they're doing it with their starting catcher out for the season and his main backup batting .080. They need a catcher for a 2016 playoff run more than the Mets do.

I thought it was today. Lacroy was held out of today's game pending a trade. That made me think they didn't want him on the field while a trade went down (like the Flores internet fiasco last year).
Thanks.

If the Mets were REALLY looking to fortify, then a deal like the Cards made today-- picking up Andrew-Miller-Lite Zach Duke from the President's favorites for speedy-but-power-free AAA centerfielder Charlie Tilson.

Well you NEVER want a guy on the field when a deal is in the works and a deal WAS in the works, it just happened to fall through. Lucroy later pinch hit after the deal was declared dead.
The deadline was bumped back a day this year because the traditional day fell on a Sunday and would haven't landed right in the middle of virtually every team's game.

Jayson Stark is saying that Lucroy to the Mets is a dead issue.

What a hot potato that guy has become.

Fourth team for Clip-Art since the beginning of 2015. Wasn't having a particularly good season out in the desert: 4.30 ERA / 1.3 WHiP compared to the 3.06 / 1.05 he put up in Queens last year.

I guess he's going to be the guy setting up Bettances at this point, either him or Adam Warren who's also a recidivist Yanqui.
Whatever it's going to be, it's a far cry from the Bettances - Miller - Chapman trio they were running out there since May

Twats on Twitter still saying Lucroy deal to the Mets is not yet dead even after Bruce. Still, it's being labelled as on "life support".

Brews looking for Dilsson Herrera in addition to d'Arnuad per various sources.

Dodgers got Reddick and Rich Hill from the A's and are said to be close to a TB pitcher.

MFYs expected to deal Beltran in the next 1:15

Will Smith and Joe Smith being traded within an hour of each other.

Aaron Nola and Ivan Nova, now just one big indistinguishable nebulous Pensylvanian character. Like George Ross and Benjamin Rush.

Francisco Liriano is a Blue Jay.

Kemp is a Brave, or did we already know that?

Steven Pearce goes back to Baltimore for a catcher who can't hit. Hell, we have plenty of those...

Couple of odd bits of fallout from a few of yesterday's trades.

- Pitcher Scott Feldman had been traded by the Astros to the Blue Jays just prior to the deadline, and seeing as how the Jays happened to be in Houston for a series he was able to to report to his new team right away merely by switching dugouts (and presumably hotel rooms). Safe to say that it would have pissed off his new team had he exercised his right to take up to 72 hours to report, huh?.
But of course he did report immediately and so when the game went into the bottom of the 14th with the Jays having already used six pitchers, Feldman made his Toronto debut against his teammates from a few hours earlier.
Four pitches later the 'Stros had a walk-off win [Altuve single - Correa double] and he had already racked up his first 'L' as a Jay.

- The Dodgers trade for RF JJ Reddick had an unexpected counter-move: Yasiel Puig to the minors!
The guy who got MVP consideration in his first two MLB seasons (finished 15th & 19th) has seen his OPS+ drop steadily since his rookie year from 159, 145, 110, to now 93 in this his 4th season [.260/.320/.386], not exactly what you want from an unpredictable and oft-fundamentally challenged corner OF
Predictably he's threatening not to report, but just as predictably I suspect he will as he doesn't have a whole lot of options other than, y'know, forfeiting his remaining salary and the ability to play in any ML-affilitated league.
