Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I'd just lay down a bunt against the shift until they stop. But that's just me.

That's also why there's so much luck in baseball. Because the action revolves around the batted ball, and the batters, by and large and to a great extent, can't control where the batted ball goes. It's tough enough just to hit the ball. And to the extent that some batters have some control over where the ball goes, it's not nearly the kind of control or precision that, for example, a basketball player needs to sink a free throw or a quarterback needs to complete a pass 30 yards downfield.Otherwise, there wouldn't be shifts. Ever.True, and good point. But the best hitters can adjust to a pitch. Now playing in an actual game, all bets are off because of the human factor, the pitcher's stuff. But in batting practice a good hitter will practice spraying them all around and try to apply that to the game. We don't see that much today. Not at all from the sluggers. Sluggers have one swing and that's all they think they need. To me that makes for a one dimensional hitter. We see too many hitters doing that these days. Meh, it's part of today's game.

If no one is on the left side tight, yea, I think I would bunt until they stop. Why doesn't one of these players today just do that?! Edited May 6, 2016 by Guest
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Bunt the ball towards third a few times, shift stops..
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 d'Kong76 wrote:Bunt the ball towards third a few times, shift stops..Do they consider it bad baseball etiquette or something, not to do that?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 No, they just consider 250 lb slow-footed sluggers to generally be really bad bunters.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Just what you want from a 10:40 start: a 1-0, yet still slow-moving, game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Damn, one of the Blash brothers is now up!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Fuck Jon Jay. You think just because you wrote the Federalist papers you can drive in runs against us? Dammit.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Ugh, Flores, straddle the bag...let the ball come to you. Ronnie says bad throw. I disagree, bad play Wilmer.GAH! RBI single by that Jay guy.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 6th inning. We can score 2 runs. Come on!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Damn! These pesky Padre position players! Cespedes is robbed by a fired up Kemp.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 What's this now, three different games this week with no hits or just one hit through the first six?Someone's got to figure out how to get a hit here.

Not good. TC said right at the get-go that this team will live and die by the longball. And I thought: don't be saying that TC, you have some power guys and some contact guys. But then everyone started hitting homeruns and I shut up.Whoa, that woke me up. And that was small ball.He did not make the transfer! Challenge!!!!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 WHAT!! what the fuck do u have a challenge for!!!!!!!!!!!--the replay shows he never transferred it and they still call him out!!! WTF!!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 1) (another) bad send by Timmy. I was saying 'No' the entire way.2) Ump made the out call too early3) I hate that calls like that can be overturned - but that one should have been and we've certainly seen much less decisive calls flipped
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Wow, that was a ballsy send by Tueffel. It should be 2-1. Not reversing that call was a travesty my friends.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 (edited) HA! Cabrera didn't even try to touch home plate afterwards. Awww man. Edited May 6, 2016 by Guest

He didn't touch the plate afterward because he was called out and it's simply not logical to play the game as if each call made needs to be ignored like it never happened.

But I didn't see that as it was happening. So, you're right, but I stubbornly stick to my guns and admit I was yelling GO! GO!lol.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 9th inning. One man on. No outs. Cespedes at the plate.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Cespedes pulls one off the end of his bat, lines out to left. Duda...walks! 2 on, 1 out, Cabrera...
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Ugh, Cabrera swings over a tight fastball. 2 out. De Aza, be my hero.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 That was fugly. Not worth the loss of sleep.
