Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Ya know, seeing a few Mets as examples, the no-border look is pretty kool. Still feels like Stadium Club to me though. And I'll never forgive Topps for lopping the ends of the best logo known to man and the universe.Still, I will enjoy the 16 cards. Because years from now I'll point to the '16's and say, yea, that was the year the Mets started their run of 3 World Championships in a row.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 The other thing is that I'm legitimately excited about the players on the cards this year, too. The last few years it's been like "Oh, great. Vic Black and Matt denDekker." But starting with the Update series last year, it's suddenly turned the corner.
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 These are beautiful! When are they coming out?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Today -- Target had them out yesterday. Stopped in and grabbed one more back BECAUSE I CAN'T STOP MYSELF:Four packs, ZERO Travis Jankowskis. You're killing me, Topps.(And if any of you DO go out and buy anything -- DGW? Z? -- save me your #184 Travis Jankowski cards.)
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 You got it. Time to start building another set (not that I finished building last years' set).

IIRC my brother and I went thru your need list and I was a bit disappointed to see that between us we only had 11 cards that you needed. I'll send them along if you still need em.seawolf17 wrote:Also, follow @brentandbecca on Twitter. Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 27 different cards in 2016 Topps Series 1 will feature Bill Cosby in some capacity. How wacky is that? From Baseball Card Breakdown:http://baseballcardbreakdown.blogspot.com/2016/02/2016-topps-preview-from-parallel.html?showComment=1454542819956#c680892604774722805
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 That's a pretty well-done parody.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I bought one pack for the hell of it. 3 Mets and a weird bonus strip of card?No Jankowski or whatever that is.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 Ooh, I see you pulled one of the CPF "special edition" Doc Gooden cards.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Pretty cool drop-in to this year's set, here:Jones' card is part of Topps' first-pitch set, which it started in 2015. It's mostly celebrities and pro athletes featured on the first-pitch cards, but Topps smartly adds notable fans to the mix too. This year's list includes soccer player Abby Wambac, NBA star Kristaps Porzingis, golfer Jordan Spieth, as well as celebrities James Taylor, Bill Withers, LeVar Burton and Johnny Knoxville. Even Bud Selig got one.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Just cracked my first pack.First card of the 2016 (Olbermann says it doesn't matter but I strongly disagree): Hunter Pence.First Mets card: That Gooden MLB Debut (seen above) but the back of mine says silly, unbelievable stuff.First regular Mets card: Niese. Meh.A 36 card pack. 2 Mets. The Gooden...maybe worth 3 regular common Mets. I did good.5 bucks a pack though. That's kind of extreme. What do kids get for an allowance these days? Like 50 bucks?I got 2 of those 72 card boxes (10$). I don't think I like these if the cards come all in one stack (just looked, they do, gah-better not be any doubles). I like the individual packs that come boxed. But this was all they had boxwise.

But this was all they had boxwise.I just picked up a couple of these boxes. I felt it was a no brainer - 144 cards for $20, or a 100 card box for $20...The baseball season seems just a little closer now:

I just want to build the base set.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 Totally agree. Just saying that's the price difference. Also -- eyeball your cards closely. If you've got any of the camo jerseys in your photos, you might have a short-printed variation that might earn you a few bucks on eBay: http://www.beckett.com/news/2016/02/2016-topps-series-1-baseball-variations/
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I bought one of the $10 boxes yesterday -- got Lagares, Wilmer and the team card -- and think the design is beautiful. That said, I don't like this idea of alternate versions of the base cards. Not the parallels - I have no use for those -- but the versions of the base cards with different photos. Based on that Beckett post, many of the short-printed cards have better photos. Just seems like Topps keeps making it harder and harder for collectors to enjoy the product.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 I totally understand that, but you can certainly enjoy the product without knowing the variations exist. If you're an obsessive player collector, then finding the short-printed Conforto variation can be a pain. But if you just want to have a Conforto RC in your collection, the "A" version is perfectly fine.
