A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 My cell phone, via MLBTR, says the Astros are 'listening to' offers on George Springer. He's an extremely talented slugger, knocked by injuries in each of his first 2 seasons. He's played RF and CF for Houston, and my cell phone sez they want pitching back, naming dudes like Carlos Carrasco (CLE) and closer Andrew Miller (NYMFY), neither player alone seemingly enough to seal a deal. He's arbitration eligible in 2017 and can't be a free agent until 2021.Would you try to make a deal for George Springer to be our new CF? What would you give up?I'll start with Wheeler, Lagares, Nimmo, and our Daniel Murphy QO draft pick (can you trade draft picks??). Still, that may not be good enough, but what the hell do I know? Regardless, it would be cool to see the Mets get real creative and nab a young, budding star from somewhere else. What is your opinion of George Springer?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Yuge talent, but I don't think the Metsies have the pieces to get it done.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Not sure if that guy is a real CF. He looks too big to be a CF.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Not sure he's a CF either although he's a pretty good RF if you don't mind a little BryceHarper-ian recklessness out there. IOW, runs into walls a lot.Big power and maybe not all of it tapped yet. Good walk rate but that comes with a YUGE K rate (33% !!). Not going to win you any batting titles but oozing with athleticism.Five years of team control with one more pre-arb.No idea what it'd take to snag him but I don't see why Houston would settle for less than one of the starters.Still trying to figure out a way to claim him as a relative.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Nice thought, but... ? I think the Astros would trade a ton FOR him if they didn't have him already.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I look at the McReynolds trade as a comp. That cost the Mets Kevin Armstrong, Kevin Brown, Shawn Abner, Stan Jefferson and Kevin Mitchell. So in 2015 dollars, that's what? Jeff Walters, Josh Smoker, Brandon Nimmo, Darrell Ceciliani, and Wilmer Flores? The Padres threw in Adam Ging and Gene Walter. So the Astros owe us one reliever who is likely to be briefly useful and one who is unlikely. Maybe you can uncomplectify that by taking out the two marginal relievers on each side. Nimmo, Ceciliani, and Flores for Springer. That's doable, I guess. Until Flores wins an MVP and kills somebody's cat.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Springer and Correa are the face of the Astros.Like not doable without Harvey.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Not likely? His dad is not quite as, um, white as most of the relatives I know.
Guest cooby classic Guests Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Did not know what he looked like Besides, I've got black cousins; don't we all by now?
