Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I assume it's just bookkeeping of various points. moving money around, and keeping 'control' of Mejia should he actually be reinstated.

If tomorrow, the commissioner plays Emily Litella, the Mets can bring back Mejia as soon as he's in shape. And if he want to get in shape quickly, there's probably a pill he could take for it....
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Agree. If you have an asset that costs you nothing because he's suspended, you might as well go through the machinations. You never know if you'll get some return down the road.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 Likely to be reinstated, according to this analysis:https://www.forbes.com/sites/marcedelman/2018/01/17/jenrry-mejia-is-likely-to-pitch-for-mets-despite-lifetime-ban/#5e3356d02af7So, this raises a few questions:1. Are they on the hook for his salary if he is reinstated but doesn't make the team?2. What happens if he gets caught again? Is it another 2 years, or is it "permanent, and this time I really mean it".
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 My guess about #2 is permanent but a longer time until the review. Perhaps 4 years, which would largely put him outside the window of viability.Another issue is that he will now no longer be a free roster spot. So a team who will soon have to clear two spots for Bruce and Gonzalez would have to clear a third. They could also put him through waivers for the purpose of sending him to the minors, and if somebody bites, c'est la vie.
