Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 GAME: New York Mets (75-60) at Miami Marlins (56-80)DATE/TIME: Sunday, September 06 - 1:10 PM ESTWHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, FloridaLINE: N/A TOTAL: N/ACovers Media Group Ltd.The Washington Nationals are finally stringing together some wins after a rough stretch, but the New York Mets have no intention of letting them back into the race in the National League East. The Mets will try to increase their lead in the division when they visit the Miami Marlins for the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday.New York showed off the formula that got them a five-game lead in the division with strong starting pitching and a trio of home runs in a 7-0 victory that evened the series on Saturday. The Mets have the schedule lining up for success down the stretch, with only Washington (six games) and the New York Yankees (three) left with winning records the rest of the way. The Marlins looked primed to throw a wrench into the race with wins in four straight before going down on Saturday and are two games ahead of the Atlanta Braves and three up on the Philadelphia Phillies in the battle to avoid the basement in the East. New York and Miami with both welcome back young starters who have dealt with recent injuries when the Mets send Steven Matz up against the Marlins Jarred Cosart.TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Florida (Miami)PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Steven Matz (2-0, 1.32 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jarred Cosart (1-4, 5.36)Matz was strong in his first two major-league starts before a tear in his left lat muscle sidelined him for two months. The 24-year-olds return allows New York to skip Noah Syndergaards turn as the team tries to keep its young starters fresh down the stretch. Matz, who also has five RBIs in six career at-bats, surrendered a total of two runs and seven hits in 13 2/3 innings to beat Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Dodgers in his first two starts.Cosart was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans after dealing with vertigo and an inner ear problem. The 25-year-old was winless in his last six starts in the majors and was sent down after getting pounded for seven runs on four hits two homers and three walks in 1 2/3 innings at the Chicago Cubs on July 4. Cosart had his best start against the Mets on April 27, scattering two hits and three walks over eight scoreless innings, but was held out of the decision.WALK-OFFS:1. Mets 1B Lucas Duda (back) began a rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham on Saturday and could return by Tuesday.2. Miami LF Christian Yelich is 11-for-22 with four doubles during a six-game hitting streak.3. New York C Travis dArnaud is 7-for-11 with four RBIs and two runs scored in his last three games.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Mets are down 2-1, Nationals have a comfy lead against the Braves. My optimism for this season has been declining quite a bit since Friday's loss.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Flores homers to put the Mets on top, and I'm feeling a bit more optimistic!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Matz has thrown 77 pitches through five innings. Hopefully he throws a scoreless sixth, but his pitch count may prevent him from pitching the seventh. And that's when things might get scary, as we well know.Am I the only one watching today? I find that hard to believe.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Matz leaves with one out in the sixth for a blister or something.Fasten your seatbelts... we're going to the bullpen!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 And I was just about to say: 'ah 80 pitches, no big deal, we can get at least another inning out of him.'
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Get Harvey Up!!If he's only going to throw 14 more innings then we might as well use him 14 times for an inning each!!!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Let Harvey pitch the 7th.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Some additional Mets runs would be very much appreciated.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Uh oh... it's Bearclaw!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Bear Claw in for the Marlins[fimg=250:lzio9ggw]http://blackberrycreek.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341cbb0053ef016764368121970b-400wi[/fimg:lzio9ggw]
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 That was a big -- and not good -- strike 3 call on Plawecki.Sure would have liked seeing 1st & 2nd/no outs right about now.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 8-4 in DC ... but the Braves being down 4 instead of 6 in their current condition makes little difference.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Mets have had a lot of baserunners erased in this series: Lots of GiDPs, a couple of caught stealing, Conforto trying to advance to 3rd earlier, Lagares getting thrown out at 2nd by 20 feet trying to stretch last night, etc. Also not many hits w/RiSP. If it wasn't for our new-found power we'd be in trouble here.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Nice inning for Reed - even with the two rather cheesy hits.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Reed gets a big strikeout of Prado to end the seventh. Still 3-2 Mets going into the eighth. Top of the order coming up.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I like Addison Reed. I 've got a good feeling about him and I hope I'm right. If anybody told me last March that come September, the Mets would be in the catbird seat and the odds on favorite to win the division and that Wilmer Flores would be their cleanup hitter, I woulda said: "I already know that. Don't tell me what I already know."

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Well, fuckaroonies.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Stealing on a 3-0 count?!?!?Man you better make it if you try, especially with a wild pitcher. If he's going to insist on putting people on base for free don't help him out.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Yeesh. One put bases loaded and Travis GIDPs.Going into the bottom of the ninth. It's extra-innings-game rules now. I may have to stop watching for a while! I can't bear to watch!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 And d'ouble fuckaroonies.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I like that Clipart's out for a second inning. But now a K/WP puts the leadoff guy on.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 The devil is Prado... I lost four lbs on that AB.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 And now we need at least 2 of 3 in Washington.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 10 of the last 12 losses have been by either 1 or 2 runs and have included 4 walk-off losses and 4 times in extra-innings.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Not full-blown panic yet, but a fair amount of unease.
