Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 If the Mets win 14-9 again it'll confirm we're in some sort of nefarious loop and we'll all keep waking up on Friday 8/21 until the Mets find true happiness or something like that.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 NY Mets at ColoradoWhen: 4:10 PM ET, Sunday, August 23, 2015Where: Coors Field, Denver, ColoradoSportsDirect Inc.The New York Mets attempt to pound their way to a three-game series sweep when they visit the Colorado Rockies for the finale on Sunday. New York maintained its five-game lead over second-place Washington in the National League East by collecting 21 hits en route to its second consecutive 14-9 victory on Saturday. The Mets batted around during an eight-run third prior to making an out, recording eight hits and a walk before Juan Uribe - who led off the inning with a homer - grounded into a run-scoring double play. Juan Lagares and Curtis Granderson - the first two batters in the lineup - each registered three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored as New York improved to 6-0 versus Colorado this year while reaching double digits in runs for the third straight time in the season series. Kyle Parker drove in four runs while Charlie Blackmon and former Met Jose Reyes homered for the Rockies, who are 2-6 on their nine-game homestand. Colorado has allowed 14 or more runs in three of its last five contests and at least 10 on five occasions this month.TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, WPIX (New York), ROOT (Colorado)PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Logan Verrett (0-1, 2.82 ERA) vs. Rockies RH David Hale (3-4, 6.17)Verrett will be making his first major-league start in place of Matt Harvey, who is being skipped in the rotation for innings purposes. The 25-year-old began the season in his native Texas but struggled, going 0-1 while allowing seven runs - six earned - over nine frames in four relief outings for the Rangers. Verrett, who was claimed off waivers by Texas from Baltimore after being selected from New York's roster in the Rule 5 draft, has given up one run over 13 1/3 innings while notching a save in seven appearances out of the bullpen since being returned to the Mets.Hale was rocked in his return from the disabled list Tuesday but escaped with a no-decision after surrendering six runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings against Washington. It was the first appearance since a relief stint July 9 for the 27-year-old Georgian, who was sidelined with a strained left groin. Hale has posted a 4.50 ERA in four career games (two starts) versus New York but has yet to record a decision.WALK-OFFS:1. The Mets have outscored the Rockies 51-23 in their first six meetings this season.2. Blackmon, who is 4-for-9 in the series, is riding an eight-game hitting streak. 3. New York placed 1B Lucas Duda on the 15-day disabled list with a lumbar strain in his back and acquired OF Eric Young Jr., who was assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas, from Atlanta for cash considerations.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Can Logan Verrett fill in for Colon from here on?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I'm certain he can. The question is whether he should.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 TC apparently wants to go lefty-righty through the lineup. But why aren't Uribe and Cespedes flip-flopped in that order?Makes more sense, no?Later
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 A Grandy walk and Muffy double makes it 1-0 Mets, 1 out in the 1st.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 This shitty Rocky pitcher managed to K the side around the walk & double.1-0 Mets
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 There's no reason to think that run won't hold up, is there?

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Damn, logan, we need at least 6 from you. Settle down man.Rockies start the game w/ back to back singles.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Wow. A big DP in which Verrett helped himself by hustling to cover 1st base. Then Flores makes a diving stop of a grounder up the middle, gets up and makes an accurate and powerful throw to end the frame.1-0 MetsI didn't think he'd get out of that w/o allowing a run. Excellent.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Waaahhh!!! We don't have a shortstop!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 That HBP got Flores right in the hip socket and that might be trouble later.2 wild pitches by that shitty Rocky pitcher makes it 3-0 Mets. Amazin'.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I hope Gary goes into more detail about the comments Reyes made in the Rocky rags. If he did in the pregame intro I missed it.Another wild pitch. Yikes. I was afraid this game would be a nightmare for Verrett but instead it's a nightmare for the shitty guy.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Man it's got to be tough watching Rockies baseball this season. Just in one turn through the lineup for the Mets so far there have been 4 hits, 3 WPs, a HBP, a BB, an error ... and we haven't even gotten to the bullpen yet.And a whole lot of 3-1/2 hour games.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Final in Washington: Nationals won.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Gotta keep scoring, though. No lead is safe.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Mets are fielding like pros so far.

You'd be a 5-10 guy if you stuck with the Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 You'd figure we'd have heard about it if Nook LaLoushe was pitching for the Rockies.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Hey, look. Starlin Castro is warming up for the Rockies. So that's what happened to him.
