Eric O'Flaherty

At this point, I'd rather pitch Cash Considerations.

I can't imagine there isn't at least one overpaid lefty that someone is trying to dump. Sandy has4 days to figure it out.

Next time we are up 6, let's try Dario Alvarez. He can't be any worse.

Sean Gilmartin's a lefty. He had a long outing on Monday so he's probably been unavailable for the last couple of days, but he should be able to pitch again soon. If not today, then I'd think tomorrow.

In (slight) fairness to O'Flaherty, had his stint not been followed with [u:2gtx5ury]2-RBI 2B -- E6 -- RBI 1B[/u:2gtx5ury] [courtesy of Mr. C. Torres, W. Flores, and T. Clippard] to the next three hitters the carnage wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

Look, the guy's been awful since he got here, there's simply no way to explain away 13 hits in 5-2/3 innings and he hasn't been especially good this whole year for whatever reason even though he's a 30 y/o coming off a season with a 2.25 ERA and a sub-1.00 WHiP plus has several other good seasons on his resume as well.
And again, right now he's the only LOOGY candidate on the staff and there's no use throwing away a potentially useful piece 4 days prior to roster expansion so simply dumping him (I'm sure he has too much seniority to simply be sent down) in favor of the great Dario Alvarez and his 1-1/3 innings of ML trial by fire might not be the 'it couldn't get any worse' fix that you assume. So I'm sure he'll stick around, get into a (not close) game now and then and hopefully right himself to the point where he'll be useful enough to get out Bryce Harper in a big spot down the line. And if not then at least there'll be other options starting this weekend and he'll simply whither from disuse until being let go after the season.

Cuddyer seemed lost in the woods a few weeks back too.

Lefties have a .607 OPS against Gilmartin, so it's not like he couldn't be used in a LOOGY situation (with the added bonus that he can get righthanded batters out as well and doesn't need to be micromanaged). Plus, either Matz or Niese will be in the pen if we play games in October. I don't see major grounds for panic here, just don't ever let O'Flaherty face a right-handed batter again and use somebody other than Gilmartin in innings-eating scenarios.

I agree. And Terry will have more "someone elses" to choose from five days from now.

And for what it's worth, I'm not saying that Alex Torres was all that great, but wasn't he better than Eric O'Flaherty? Is he still an option, or is he out of the organization?

lex has a 1.80 ERA in five games (5.0 innings) for Wally Backman's Las Vegas 51s. He has struck out six and walked one(!).

Every team needs a good BP pitcher. They should, however, be utilized prior to the game, rather than during it.
