Giants have DFA'ed Casey McGehee who can't unseat Duffy. Decent glove and lots of hits, little power, 32 years old, maybe near the end of the line for him.

Cubs' Mike Olt is nearing return from an arm fracture that had him on the 60-day DL. He was a top-50 prospect who hasn't yet proved he belongs up here but always hit in the minors. Thing about him is he may have lost his job to Kris Bryant.

McGehee is a trip. He's obsessed with playing the game the right way, which is practically synonymous with being a dick. He's got a wrestler's roidy-lookin' case of male pattern baldness. He's an inspiration when he's hitting, but can disappear for months at a time, with no corresponding dialing down of the attitude. He's practically John Buck without the catching gear.

He's white, so we're legally obliged to term him a "throwback" � a throwback to the time when all ballplayers were dangerous sociopaths living by the code of a brutal street gang.

I remember Olt being discussed in a Met trade at one point (Dickey probably) but, if it were ever true, we dodged a major bullet by looking elsewhere.
He was a top-50 type prospect for a while but his stock really took a hit with a .201/.303/.381 line w/126 K in 361 AB split between AAA Round Rock & Des Moines back in 2013
Will turn 27 next month and probably shouldn't be looked at as anything other than a back-up/fill-in at this point. Classic guy with power potential but far too much swing-and-miss to his game.

I know a lot less than a lot of the folks I butt up against. But McGehee was a Marlin last year so we saw him 18 or 19 times, and even though his year was pretty meh, he seemed to always be in the middle of things when he was playing the Mets, and it was a comeback year for him � literally, as he was in Japan the previous year.

I know almost nothing about his time with the Yankees, but you just know he hung out with other entitled, meathead, wannabe enforcers like Francisco Cervelli and Derek Lowe.

If you're one of the breed of Met fans who thinks the greatest moment in the history of the franchise was when Ray Knight punched a black guy in the face just for looking at him wrong, well, McGehee just may be your guy.

Olt's shown pop (.175 isolated SLG, 13 HRs in 314 PAs) in the majors, along with a mild bounceback the last two seasons (.350ish OBP, near-.600 slugging at AAA when he hasn't been, y'know, healing).

Post-hype sleeper, methinks. And this is exactly the kind of guy-- surface value dinged talent, with risk AND significant upside-- we should be moving, say, Hawky for.

Sarah's alright. She eschews the played-out blond dye of the MLB trophy-wife standard, she keeps fit without putting up duck-lip selfies on the web, and she's raising a special needs child and supports and advocates for United Cerebral Palsey. She's expressed interest in adopting a second special-needs child, and even if that doesn't come to pass, speaks well of her.
