Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 A 9:10 EDT start time tonight.Pads start one of their FA acquisitions from their massive off-season makeover, 'Big Game' James Shields (although I don't think this qualifies as a big game so we're OK here).Shields is 6-0 w/SD this year although with only moderately good peripherals [3.69 ERA, 1.22 WHiP] and a league leading 15 HRs served up (although how that affects us I couldn't possibly imagine).Mets counter with the newly returned Dillon Gee (I think we're up to version 7.4 on him already) I'd like to suggest some lineup switches to, I don't know, maybe score some runs and cut back on the 85 strikeouts we've racked up over the last two nights (someone might want to check my math) but right now there's no one on the bench who even deserves to be in the major leagues much less in the starting lineup [non-regs are combining for a .165/.236/.257 line while K-ing in 1/3 of their ABs].
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I was mentally building a lineup on the way to work.[*:3u9d8deg]Tejada, ss[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Murphy, 3b[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Duda, 1b[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]C'Dyer, lf[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Granderson, rf[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Flores, 2b[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Recker, c[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Gee, p[/*:m:3u9d8deg][*:3u9d8deg]Lagares, cf[/*:m:3u9d8deg][/list:o:3u9d8deg]Feel free to put the infielders back in the positions Terry's been playin' 'em at, but I prefer the deck stacks that way.And really, does it matter who plays where on defense for either team here in the midst of the strikiest-outiest series ever?Anybody remember the last Eric Campbell plate appearance? He's still on the team, right?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 While they're out west, they may want to invite Alex Castellanos over for a play date.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Well somebody needs to go down prior to game time in order to allow them to activate Gee and they've already said it's not going to be a reliever. So Castellanos, along with Campbell and Muno, are stepping lightly right about now.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 NY Mets at San DiegoWhen: 9:10 PM ET, Wednesday, June 3, 2015Where: Petco Park, San Diego, CaliforniaSportsDirect Inc.Dillon Gee returns to the New York rotation for the first time in exactly a month when the Mets close a three-game set against the host San Diego Padres. Gee has been sidelined with a groin injury and is winless in five starts this season. While Gee is back in the fold, New York still doesn't know when third baseman David Wright might play again. Wright has been rehabbing his injured back in Los Angeles and hoping to avoid major back surgery due to spinal stenosis, a condition where the spine narrows and traveled down to San Diego to provide updates on his status. "It's easy to speculate," Wright, who last played April 14, told reporters. "But from the moment that I was diagnosed with this, the information-gathering stage, there's never been a question in my mind that not only am I going to come back, but I'm going to come back sooner rather than later." The teams have traded easy victories over the first two games New York posted a 7-0 win in the opener and the Padres recorded a 7-2 victory Tuesday.TV: 9:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN San DiegoPITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Dillon Gee (0-2, 3.86 ERA) vs. Padres RH James Shields (6-0, 3.69) Gee allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last three starts prior to the injury. He has struck out 20 and walked eight while opposing batters are hitting .280 against him. Gee is 2-2 with a 2.52 ERA in four career starts against the Padres.San Diego has won the last six games started by Shields and is 8-3 when the free-agent signee is on the hill despite the fact he has allowed 15 homers, tied for most in the majors. He received a no-decision against Pittsburgh in his most-recent outing when he gave up two runs and six hits in six innings Friday. Shields won his lone career start against New York, allowing one run and three hits in seven innings for Tampa Bay in 2009.WALK-OFFS:1. San Diego 1B Yonder Alonzo (shoulder) was activated off the disabled list Tuesday and went 3-for-4 and scored twice.2. New York RF Curtis Granderson, who is 3-for-22 over his last six games, is batting .119 with 14 strikeouts in 59 career at-bats against Shields.3. Padres LF Justin Upton (eight at-bats, four strikeouts) and RF Matt Kemp (six at-bats, four strikeouts) are hitless in 14 at-bats in the series.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Yeah, I didn't even factor in how bad Kemp has been in the field.I'm getting these ads for Old Dominion Household Services. They help you move by letting you pack the van, driving the van for you, and then letting you unpack the van. What kind of terrible service is that?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Ceciliani SO looks minor league with that fuzzy hyphen on his chin.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 An inexperience play by Tehotty. Rotate your infielders, Terry.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Great way to start. Gee's first batter reaches on error (Tejeda). And he walks the next guy. Niiiiice. sarco-meter [ /]

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Ugh. Bases loaded, 1 out. We really need Gee to AT LEAST go 5. Cripes. Settle down Gee. Your big here. We need a win.Gee hits Alonso with a pitch. Niiiiiice (see sarc-0-meter)
