Unless he starts laying eggs or comes up hurt, Syndergaard's coming real soon. In fact (puts fingers to forehead/squints eyes), I'm calling Friday night, May 22, in Pittsburgh.I have foreseen it. And the fact that nothing else I've foreseen has come to pass shouldn't necessarily undermine that statement.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Great. David Lennon scooped me last night.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I think the 1000th Met is gonna be some 35-year-old journeyman veteran for whom the Mets will be his 9th team.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Shouldn't Thorsblot be on a Thursday? But the 22nd means an extra day of rest for Harvey and deGrom, which I guess is part of the point. Don't forget Syndergaard is on the tighter innings limit though. And that's still 3.5 starts away. situation could be exacerbated by an injury or trade. If they're looking to ease him in, it might make sense to wait for the following series against the Phillies, though technically that'd be off-turn.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I enjoy the Thor stuff. If we're not calling his curveball Mjlnir I don't know what we're doing anymore. Not questioning your tea leaves. I prefer to read entrails though, I find the accuracy is a little better.I just mean that I'm not sure it's effective to use a guy with a stricter inning cap to try to relieve the other guy's caps.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 He was the winning pitcher today. 8 IP, 5 H, 2R, 0 BB, 8K. Ho hum.He also had three hits, including a double and a home run.Later
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 My daughter was at the game today. Said he looked great.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Hey, look, he bats left-handed! And he hit it to dead center too, just as the announcer is talking about his hitting prowess.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Seeing "Synder" and "clock" together makes me think of Cinderella. Maybe "Cinderella" would be a better nickname for Noah than "Thor" is.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Pitching this Tuesday at Wrigley. Gee to DL
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 As the ancient Chinese proverb says: May you root for the Mets during interesting times.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Smoly crap, huh?I would've encouraged them to call up an infielder for a few days beforehand, but... way to go, Mets. And... what a convenient little injury.

Gee to DLI can't be the only one who's nervous about a pitching prospect making his MLB debut in Wrigley, can I?Eh ... Wrigley's actually a much better pitching park than it's rep suggests. That rep exists because on those days when it is good for hitters -- those infamous wind-blowing-out days -- it's REALLY GOOD. But, even though those days get all the headlines, they're decidedly in the minority, especially early in the season like this when you're more likely to get the opposite or a neutral kind of day.If this were a day game in August I'd be more apt to be chewing fingernails with you.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 In that case let's just hope that the temperature is not in the mid-40s
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 And if nothing else, he should help our Noffense out a bit: he's a .270/. 357/.405 career hitter in the minors (47 PAs)
