Yeah it was inane, but what are you going to ask a guy early in a game he's not playing? The main fault lies with station mgmt who hires guys like this because they think they have to (after all, everyone else has one) and then feels obligated to use him to justify the hire. Bottom line is, just because you CAN do something ('hey, we've got the backup catcher cornered - get Gelbs over there quick!!') doesn't always mean it's a good idea.well, he presumably knew he was going to interview him. I mean, maybe something better than "I know you haven't caught Syndergaard yet, but tell me about him?" ?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Interviewing people is difficult, I can imagine being live and with dumb baseball players as your subject doesn't make it any easier, but the proof is in the pudding: If it's not entertaining and detracts from the game then why do it at all?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Gelbs also needs to develop a sense of humor. Sometimes Kevin would do something absurd, but he'd have fun with it (the bobble head collection in Miami or kayaking in McCovey Cove). Gelbs just paddles in circles, literally and figuratively.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 What you be talking about, whether being relevant or being absurd, is a nose for a story.Gelbs and Mcineny (or whatever his name is) ain't showed much of it yet.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Gelbs after distracting me from following what happened on the Plawecki play forgot his mic was still on and talked over Gary Keith & Ron.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Tonight in Arizona he was eating a churro dog during the broadcast. Not exactly with aplomb.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 It was silly, but the booth was silly with him.(not a Gelbs endorsement)

I guess that means I care.
