TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I like. I think it solidifies the depth in the pen.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 -- Like --Gave up potentially* more for a guy who may have been available via waiver wire claims in a few days anyway (although then there's no guarantee your claim will be the first one)But we also got a potentially better upside in a younger and less split-happy reliever (as compared to Blevins) who's under club control for the next four seasons. The walk rate scares you a bit, but the hits/9 and HRs/9 are terrific so you take the bad with the good.* both because we don't know what Mazzoni will be nor do we know the identity of the PtbNL ... recent draft pick?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I'm just sorry Torres isn't from Texas and doesn't speak with a braggadocio he can't back up because he cries out to be referred to as all hat and no cattle.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Since there was no "Let's see who the PTBNL is" choice, I treaded water with an "indifferent" vote. But if he performs as well as we hope, I guess that's won't be a major issue.Later
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I'm categorizing this as "Like" primarily because I think it signals the club is worried about the bullpen enough to do something about it, so I'm glad they're out there fighting for it. But you know, I liked Carmine Ronzonni and you figure all else being equal he too could one day be as good or better than a middle reliever with control issues.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 More indifferent than the other deal, I guess because of asmall degree of knowing what they got in Blevins moresothan in Torres.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Torres is under control, young, not limited to a LOOGY (and getting Blevins helps that be true), and seems to be pretty good. And they bought low because he a had an iffy year, though not bad, last year.
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I like it - it provides needed depth for the pen
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 It's actually five years of control for Torres, according to Baseball Reference. He can't become a free agent until after the 2019 season.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Went with like, although I don't like this as much as the Blevins deal. But we needed another lefty and Sandy went and got one (2 total).I gotta like it.
