Given the Mets anemic offense, I'm not sure that any manager could be a difference maker, unless their name is Merlin.

I think they're out there. Managers who make a difference. But I don't know who they are. And so we mistake big names from big winning teams as big difference makers.

Francona wasn't missed when he left Philadelphia, but somehow he was gold in Boston. Either that or they were just two different teams in two different positions, which is more likely.

But that's not to say Terry didn't make a difference. Hard.

Can Weaver hit? Earl tended to eschew small ball and manufacturing runs in hopes of landing the 3 run homer. I don't think his managerial style would work with the current Mets team as the seldom have runners on base and they rarely hit home runs, so the 3 run home run would likely be exceedingly rare.
