Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Houston at NY MetsWhen: 7:10 PM ET, Saturday, September 27, 2014Where: Citi Field, New York City, New YorkSportsDirect Inc.Jose Altuve looks to inch closer to becoming Houston's first player to win the batting title when the visiting Astros and New York Mets continue their season-closing interleague series on Saturday. The 24-year-old Venezuelan went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Houston's 3-1 victory on Friday and has a majors-best .342 batting average, which is six points higher than Detroit's Victor Martinez. Altuve has no plans to rest on his laurels, telling reporters that he's "gonna win it outside on the field, not sitting on the bench."Curtis Granderson continues to finish the season with a flourish, belting his 20th homer on Friday to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Granderson is 11-for-25 with six runs scored during that stretch, but is just 9-for-54 in his career versus the Astros. The Mets have dropped three of four and reside in a three-team tie for second place in the National League East. TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Houston), SNY (New York)PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Samuel Deduno (2-6, 4.66 ERA) vs. Mets RH Rafael Montero (1-3, 4.38)Claimed off waivers in late August, Deduno has allowed four runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings of relief with the Astros. The 31-year-old Dominican permitted an unearned run in two innings in his last outing versus Seattle on Sept. 19. Deduno has struggled with his control throughout his career, issuing four walks in his brief time with Houston while his 143 free passes in 289 1/3 innings leaves a great deal to be desired.Montero is receiving the start after the Mets elected to shut down Jacob deGrom in a bid to limit the rookie's workload. The 23-year-old Dominican recorded his first career win on Sept. 10 after scattering three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings against Colorado. Montero issued four walks in the contest and has allowed 21 free passes in 39 innings this season.WALK-OFFS:1. New York CF Matt den Dekker is 10-for-30 (.333) in his last 11 games.2. Houston 1B Chris Carter had an RBI double in the sixth inning on Friday, but is just 3-for-30 in his last nine contests.3. Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is expected to have surgery on Monday as he deals with a bone spur in his right elbow.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 You know, I was thinking they should activate Teagarden for the last series, just because. I mean, who cares if he's home watching his home decorating shows at this point and hasn't faced live pitching in weeks, everybody carries three or more catchers in September, and it allows them not to get burned by late-inning maneuvering. But here's a better idea an they can do it without calling anybody up: Activate Dave Racianello.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Actually, it would be fun if the Mets held a year-long contest and the winner got to sign a one-day contract and get placed on the 40 for the last game of the year. Maybe they get an AB, maybe not; but it'd be fun.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Sandy and Terry misheard. Thought MLB told them it was OK to play with a 14-man roster.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Trying to not think tomorrow is the end of the season.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I know, right? Let's play 200!Teen idols are like the legendary hydra. Cut off one head, and two more grow back.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Jose Altuve --- not a tall man.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Young Mister Flowers has looked increasingly impressive turning the DP from this side of the bag.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 John Franco on the radio tonight brought nothing to the table. Couldn't wait to get home and listen to... anybody.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Montero showing something nice here.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Are we going to have enough bodies to play the game tomorrow?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 den Dekker is your teen idol, girlies.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Good time to bring in deGrom and try and steal one more win for him.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Your instinct is guiding you well. It's garbage.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 A handful of Lincolnbeards on these Astros.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Track is absolutely slathered in autotune.Show some life, Mets. Do it for the middle school girls.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Pathetic in that we can't hit, and pathetic in that it's on track to be a 1-0 game that takes over three hours to complete.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Yeah, seriously. Put a ball in fucking play.
