stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 #WhyThisKindOfSocialMediaMarketingBlows Not just sports franchises.Twitter: where unfunny people get a mic and a spotlight. This is true, but the point is that because of the trolls who "hijack" the hashtag for their own, and followers, amusement and the hope that they get picked up in some agenda driven news article like the one linked to, is pretty much as good of a reason as any for not engaging in such campaigns. Even if the intention, as in the Met one, prize winning driven or in order to create a database of consumer information (here are Twitter handles who did this hashtag, lets tailor some "suggested companies tweets" into their newsfeed or whatever, its a bad idea that can only cause embarrassment to the cause and ridicule by your haters.Case in point, while the Met one has been floating around Met blogs and forums, that Republican one (off of an internet hack agenda driven "news" (but mostly opinion) driven site that is anti the Tea Party) came from a socialist FB cyber "friend" of mine that clearly loves trolling for both people to argue with him and the "HAHAHAHA THAT IS SO TRUE! THEY ARE SO STUPID" responses from those who agree with him on politics, religion (he's a hardcore "devout" atheist) and social issues (to the point of drudging up years old stories to prove a point about an issue ongoing today).I mean, yeah I get the idea of not paying attention to that sort of internet trolling, that its as much to get rises out of people and causing flame wars especially if you are something much bigger than they are (sports franchise, a national political party, celebrity, etc), but why give them ammunition, especially if all they really are, are just attention whores on social media platforms. That's what they want, they crave the attention, and you are just feeding into it by making silly social media marketing gimmicks like "hashtag a response to this statement."

Thanks to the Mets for years I've been saying Gatto designed the logo. And I get HIM confused with Gallo. Oy! *slaps forehead

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Even more proof to my point that shit like #ImAMetsFanBecause is a dumb idea for anyone or any entity with an ample amount of haters on the interwebs:http://www.vox.com/2014/11/12/7203269/dr-oz-health-twitterhttp://nypost.com/2014/11/10/bill-cosby-twitter-hasthag-meme-immediately-backfired/And related to the Cosby one:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2831615/Bill-Cosby-rape-victim-Barbara-Bowman-says-monster-TV-legend-deserves-scorn-humiliation-got-taunted-internet-evil-deeds-meme-request-backfired.htmlBut sure, keep with your "so what, haters gonna hate" mentality about how the hashtag social media tool should be used.
