MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 My newest kid (Montero had to leave my house when he made the majors this year) is catcher Kevin Plawecki. The ex-Purdue Boilermaker hitting to the tune of a .899 OBP at Binghamton.http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=C&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=608700He was drafted with a supplemental pick 2 years ago, and is considered a good hitter, so-so defender.Kid, I hope we'll be seeing you with the big club this year.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Plawecki is a “future All-Star” and “the best catcher in the organization" - or so says an American League scout quoted in a John Marzano NY Post article, “He can hit, catch, throw ... his mechanical flaws are easily correctable" the scout said. "From level to level, he needs to get [locked] in with his arm action and the arm path, and once he gets that locked down, he’s going to have a better-than-average arm.”
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 If he works out, that would free the Mets to trade Travis for a Cy Young winner!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Kristie Ackert in the Daily News today says that Plawecki will go to Las Vegas when d'Arnaud returns to the Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Teagarden not expected to clear wavers?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 The other speculation was that Recker would leave the Mets and Teagarden would stay. (I know you don't want to hear this; I'm sorry!)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 It's OK. I can watch 51s games too.But it still speaks of one catcher going out of Las Vegas and two coming in. So I'm curious. Teaparty would have to sit out a few days while attempting to pass through waivers, right? So maybe Plawecki would be initially promoted to cover that stretch.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Is Centeno still in Vegas? Maybe he'll get demoted.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 From a BA Q&A:Q: That [breaking into the Top-50 mid-season prospects list (at #40)] is serious helium for Kevin Plawecki. What's a realistic projection for him?A: (Matt Eddy - BA): A regular catcher who won’t have to bat eighth in the order! Just glancing at regular catchers from the past five years, Plawecki might have a batting average-fueled ceiling along the lines of Salvador Perez or Carlos Ruiz, though he probably won’t be as strong defensively.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 Rubin is reporting that Kevin has missed recent games because of a case of vertigo. No treatment, just rest.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Terry mentioned on the post game press conference that Kevin may be the player called up while Travis is on the DL. He added that if he is, he will play regularly and not be a platoon player. No formal word yet.Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 Kicking my kid out of the house. He's in the bigs now. But while he was here at our dinner table, wifey made great stuffed cabbage.Do us proud, kid.Later
