Series in review: Gee continues the run
April, 27, 2014

By Mark Simon | ESPNNewYork.com

The Mets won two of three from the Marlins to make it six wins in the past eight games and close their 10-game homestand 6-4.

Dillon Gee's win in the series finale marked the first time in his career that he finished a start with at least eight scoreless innings.

Opponents are now hitting .193 against Gee this season. He has a 0.86 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in his past three starts, in which hes allowed only two extra-base hits.

Its part of a great run by Mets starters, who had a 2.49 ERA on the 10-game homestand.

Gees changeup and slider were at their best on Sunday. He threw them a combined 27 times, netting 20 strikes and 10 outs (including five strikeouts) without yielding a baserunner.

I'd like to know how much to credit Recker (or any catcher on any day, for that matter) should get, but batters seemed so genuinely surprised all afternoon by the pitches he was throwing. Even with men on base they seemed confused and crossed up.

well, 6-0 with Recker this season right? Very small sample.

It's interesting at least. I dunno. Seemed like d'Arnaud arrived just as Wheeler took a step forward last season, but this year they've admittedly struggled some together, at least communication wise, and he did well in his (1?) Recker start.

3 of Recker's 6 starts have been with Gee as the starting pitcher and, likewise, 3 of Gee's 6 starts have been with Recker behind the plate.

Gee's 2014 line in Recker games: 2-0, 22.1 IP, 12 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 13 K, 1.21 ERA

Gee's 2014 line in d'Arnaud games: 0-1, 18.1 IP, 16 H, 10 ER, 8 BB, 14 K, 4.91 ERA

Small sample sizes, but it was obvious yesterday that the two were in sync.

I don't have the time to look at their 2013 stats together, but I do see Recker had the lowest catcher ERA of all the Mets catchers last season.

Well, sure. But that only gets us so far. I mean, Rick Ankiel has more experience than Mike Trout.

QUICK re-sign Ankiel and see if the Angels will make that trade.
