Six is the norm but remember that the short-season leagues don't begin until late June or so.
The Mets actually have seven affiliates, the above four plus Brooklyn in the NY Penn League, Kingston in the Appy Lg, and a second team in PSL that plays in the entry level Gulf Coast Lg

Las Vegas beats Reno 6-0 tonight, with Dana Eveland going the first five innings of the shutout to get the win, and Allan Dykstra going 2-4 with a homer and a double. Wilmer F. Flores got a double a triple and three RBI of his own.

The entire organization for the night the Mets had off:

  • Las Vegas 6 Reno 0

    Eveland: 5 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 S0
    Carlyle: 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 SO
    Dykstra: 2-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, RS
    Flores: 2-5, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 RS
    Campbell: 3-5, 2 RS

  • Binghamton 4 New Hampshire 1

    Bowman: 7 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 11 SO
    Church: 1 IP, 0 R, 0, H, 0 BB, 2 SO
    Ceceliani: 3-5, 2B, 2 RS
    Burgamy: 2-2, 3 BB
    Reynolds: 3-4, 1 RS

  • St. Lucie 6 Fort Myers 1

    Matz: 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 SO
    Rivera: 2-5, 2B, RBI
De La Cruz: 2-4, SB, RS

  • Greenville 4 Savannah 0

    Gsellman: 5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 SO

Unfortunate, Savannah missed the memo and kept the system from achieving the sweet and rare organizational sweep. Hero of the Day has to be Matt Bowman, whose 11 strikeouts allow him to edge even an impressive Steven Matz outing. Goat of the Day looks like Gavin Cecchini, whose four trips as leadoff batter for Savannah resulted in a failure to reach base, 2 strikeouts, a poor showing at the plate compounded by two errors on defense, one with the glove and one with the arm. Hang in there, Gavin. There'll be better days!

    • Abreu: 1-4, BB, HR, 3 RBI, RS
    • Muno: 4-4, HR, RS, 4 RBI
    • Dykstra: 1-4, BB, HR, 2 RS, 2 RBI
    • Flores: 1-2, 3 BB, 3 RS =#FF8000](shortstop)

Binghamton, St. Lucie, and Savannah, as well as their respective leagues, all got Easter Sunday off!

This means, combined with the Mets win over the Braves.... ORGANIZATIONAL SWEEP!

I'm naming Las Vegas secondbaseman =#FF0000]Daniel Muno Player of the Day. Daisuke fans may argue otherwise.

Cool new feature (or maybe I've just noticed it) on BB-Ref
When you look up a minor league player, next to his age for each season it lists the age difference between him and "the weighted average" of the rest of the league he's in that year (hitters and pitchers calculated separately).

So, for instance, Met fans who proclaim themselves to be "tired of waiting"* for Wilmer Flores can see at a glance that he's been from around three and a half to nearly six years younger than his league virtually every season and at every level as he's progressed.

* "If he were any good he'd be up here already" -- M. Francesa (at least two years ago)

A box like this has to be preserved for posterity. Francoeur pitched! He was, in fact, the only thing that kept LV from scoring in every inning.

Vegas sporting six guys with OBPs over .400, and that's not counting Chris Young and Bobby Abreu, who were just passing through.

Chris Young: .714
Allan Dykstra: .561
Kai Gronauer: .500
Bobby Abreu: .489
Anthony Seratelli: .444
Zach Lutz: .440
Eric Campbell: .430
Juan Centeno: .417

Taylor Teagarden is reaching at only a .350 rate, but he's slugging .583.

Must be fun for Wally to fill out the lineup card these days.

That, folks, is an ORGANIZATIONAL SWEEP! A malicious organizational sweep, I'd say.

Too many heroes to choose from. I'm giving Hero of the Day to Lutz, but so many other qualifiers showed up. How about this?

1. Lutz
2. Colon
3. Matz
4. Nimmo (4 walks!)
5. Cruzado

Likelihood of an organizational sweep on a day when (like yesterday) all teams are in action? 3.125%.

When short season ball starts and all eight teams are in action? 0.390625%. I think we maybe had one of those last year, but probably not.

Yeah, Bingo didn't play, but Savannah made up for it by winning twice.

St. Lucie was down 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth and threw up a 10-run inning. Nimmo: 2-2 with three more walks. Buy stock in this guy now.

Likelihood of the organization sweeping two days in a row with that many games played: 0.09765625%

Your mileage may differ on that last bunch, but Jeff McNeil (who?) almost made this list twice. Nimmo and Dykstra merely put up a baseline level of great yesterday.

And if you're from the school where walk rates are a great determinant of future success, buy heavily.

Nimmo has walked so far this season in more than 20% of his PAs (22 of 101) throwing his 'Slash Line' into a ridiculous .380/.515/.494 ... aka: gets on base more often than he makes outs
That .135 'Walk Rate' (the gap between BA & OBA) is about double the ML average.

Wouldn't mind seeing his slugging numbers upped a bit -- only 4 doubles + 1 triple + 1 HR among his 30 hits to date, but:
1) both Port St Lucie in particular and the Fla St Lg in general typically suppress XBHs -- Low altitude, humid weather, children playing in big boy sized parks, etc.
2) power is often the last thing to come around on young players so added Pop may still be lurking in his DNA getting ready to blossom at some future time

As always, the usual SSS (small sample size) warnings apply, your mileage may vary, past performance is no guarantee of future earnings, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Brandon Nimmo's line tonight against the Charlotte Stone Crabs:

4-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 RS

His line for the season: .407 / .530 / .549 // 1.080. I don't want to jinx things by saying we're in holy shit territory here, but sweet Georgia Brown, his nightly lines have been a refreshing thing to look at.

* Flores cleared for action after sitting out with a jammed finger

* Lagares played nine inning of CF in LV last night. Is eligible to return from DL as soon as Wednesday but it is unclear exactly when he will

Matt Eddy of BA on Nimmo -- Be very encouraged that Nimmos [2013] hand injury has healed and he can get on top of the ball again. Be wary of his .479 batting average on balls in play. His secondary skills are good for his age, but his power is not otherworldly, so his rate of productivity could look a lot different once the singles stop falling. (For whatever reason, hes also hitting .458 at home. Is this a fluke, or does he see the ball very well in St. Lucie?) The Mets have to be thrilled with the early performance. It could be a real confidence-builder going forward.

He actually went 0-4 yesterday although w/a walk.

Greg Peavey seems like a cinch for Organizational Dude of the Day after clocking a two-hit shutout with wife and newborn son in attendance.

Jake's cruising along with a 2-1 / 3.16 record, striking out 25 and walking seven in 31.1 innings.

Vegas, down 5-2 in the early going, just went up 6-5 in the 10th on an Eric Campbell double.

Flores follows that by singling him to third, Wilmer's third hit of the night.

Dykstra singles home Soupy.

AD whiffed his first three trips to the plate, but has driven in three since then, on two hits and a sac fly.

Goes to the breaking ball and STRIKE THREE!

Black fans the side to close out the big win! Two in the ninth to tie and two in the tenth to steal the victory. The 51s move to an '86-Mets-ish 23-10!

Fourth straight walkless appearance for Victor Negro, no less.

I mean, he's still walking 7 per 9 innings, but, hey-- progress!
