metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 So weird to see the Phillies playing the Rangers on Opening Day
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 1st (I believe) replay review of the season goes against the Cubs as they argue that pitcher Samardjzia beat out a grounder at 1st

Of course, 15 team leagues means that there'll always be an interleague series going on. I guess the schedule makers figure on both of these teams being eliminated by season's end -- so might as well have them play against each other, rather than against a team that might still be in contention.

Seems to me the Tigers ended last season in Miami. They do try to limit interleague games to one series at a time in April and September however.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Astros are starting this season with the Yanx (in Houston tomorrow) and finishing with the Mets (in NY)

Making out a MLB baseball schedule is exponentially tougher than doing so for any other American sport.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 * Now 13-10 Phils in the 7th in Texas* Pirates beat Cubs 1-0 in the 10th on a Neil Walker-off HR. Charlie Newtown (Carlos Villanueva) was the victim* Fredi Gonzalez wins the distinction of being the first manager to get a call reversed (got a leadoff Brewer infield hit in the 6th erased) but the Braves lost 2-0 anyway* Tigers get 2 in the 7th and a walk off run in the 9th to beat KC

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Cubs ties Pirates with a run in the 9th, then go ahead in the 12th but Pirates tie it right back and have McCutcheon batting with the bases loaded.... (MLB tv NOW!!!!)
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 ...but McCutcheon whiffs and we go to the 13th in Steeltown
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Pirates eventually win the game in the 16th. Naturally those two have a noon start today.Looking through the box score of that one I see this interesting play from the 13th inning:- Pirates load the bases in bottom 13 w/no outs [1B, HBP, Sac Bunt which failed to get anyone out]- next batter, Clint Barmes, hits into a [u:34759erz]7-2-3 DP[/u:34759erz]!! something which I'm going to assume was one of those five infielder deals worked to perfection- with 2nd & 3rd Jody Mercer was IW'd to re-load the bases and get to Tabata (a bit strange seems to me) but Tabata grounded out to extend the game.a Tony Sanchez PH single in the 16th eventually won itReds & Cards played their second consecutive 1-0 game. This time it was the Reds winning on a walk-off single in the 9th.Lots of walk-offs so far this young season and a tough week for closers. Edited April 3, 2014 by Guest
