Well, duh. Of course it's TV. Maybe in the future they won't even need stands. We'll all pay to sit and watch em from home.

It's not a fear that the sport should ignore, and in some ways I think the NFL is already partly over that edge. They cater so heavily to their TV audience (where a MUCH BIGGER portion of their TV dollars come from as compared to baseball) that it's often at the expense of their paying customers to the point where, in some cities, tickets in previously sold-out stadiums are starting to go unsold.

It seemed like both sides had runners on base every inning, but Boston was better at bringing those runners home (including two solo homers by David Ortiz) and win 7-4. David Price stayed in the game until the eighth inning (removed after Ortiz's second homer). Koji Uehara set down the side in order on like 11 pitches in the ninth.

No score from Oakland yet.

I like this crew , the pby guy is better than EJ, I have always liked Buck Martinez and Eck in the booth is better than when he was in the studio with David Wells. This pbp guy with Buck Martinez and Darling would be excellent .

Darling as is his want defers too much to the other great player in the booth weather it be Mex or Ripken.

If I have one complaint about Darling it's that he plays the 'I wasn't a very good player' card too much.
That's either false humility or maybe he really does feel inferior in the presence of HoFers like Ripken or just plain guys with superior careers like Hernandez. Either way, it's not a good trait for announcers.
Paul O'Neill does the same thing. The guy was a lifetime .288 hitter who swears that he was like 1-for-30 against every pitcher from his era whose name happens to come up.

In the meantime, that one Toriiiii Hunter caught then dropped in the transfer last inning. Didn't we have a game like that, either earlier this year or maybe last, where the ruling was that an OFer has to have a "clean transfer" in order for it to be called a catch?
That seems to be a very arbitrarily applied rule.

Always nice to see a rookie who can match zeroes with Justin Verlander.

Darling says: ",.......right?" too much. We did but Hunter seemed to have had control of the ball, it was in his glove, for a long period, as these things go. And I coun't see the tranfer, he may have dropped it from his bare hand. The view I saw was almost behind him. How about how he adjusted at the last second to make that catch. He stuck his arm out and snagged that, and he was in that position cuz it was ripped and he misjudged it, lil bit, but that last adjustment. Phew. That's why he is one of the best glove men out there.

I was just about to ask if the Tigers were allowed to use a player who doesn't exist.

Not looking good for Les Tigres.

This game looks like its as good as over, but the Mets probably wouldn't score here, with bases loaded no out in the 9th at home.

Well, that's why they are there and the Mets are home watching. Good game. Great pitching.

I'm amazed that ended in 9 innings. Great game!

Just saw a clear replay on that transfer. I don't understand this game sometimes. Yea, he dropped it during the transfer, looked like.

My only question is that I've seen cases in the past where umps seem to treat the 'transfer' rule differently for outfielders than for infielders, but yet they didn't do so tonight.
I'm honestly confused as to what the real rule is supposed to be in these cases.

The list of players I expected NOT to see in sanctioned post-game shows was headed by Gary Sheffield ... and yet there he is.

Hah, me too. He didn't suck. His gangsta voice sounds out of place with those other guys but I could get used to it if he says intelligent, informative things. I like the 63 Beatles group photo jacket he's wearing.

Great game. Go Buccos! This was a big game. They had to win this one at home. Great crowd.
