Irish Heritage Night on August 2nd....against guess who?....The Kansas City ROYALS

I mean really, of all the teams the Mets could have held this wonderful night against they chose the Royals. This is a huge insult and I'd not be one bit surprised to see step dancers pull out

Does anyone working there have a clue?

It's a good thing the Syracuse Orangemen don't have a MLB franchise.

Perhaps the one instance where I wouldn't want to offend the Yankees, because the alternative is worse. I guess there would be a KKK Korner for that game.

The Syracuse Orangemen haven't existed since 2004. They dropped the names 'Orangemen' & 'Orangewomen' in favor of the less offensive and more all-inclusive 'Orange'.

I suppose if you had 'Color Blindness Awareness Night' then, yeah, maybe you don't want to be playing Syracuse. Or Alabama. Or Brown.

What race is orange anyway? I don't even know who that was offending

They were originally named the 'Saltine Warriors' in a nod to the indigenous Onondagan tribe of central New York. Because the school mascot was a student dressed as an American Indian with makeup and orange-y skin, they became the 'Orangemen'.

And the 'Saltine Warriors' brings to mind the name of a very different stereotype name from Southern League baseball: The Atlanta Crackers

This was in response to metirish's Irish Heritage Night. In Northern Ireland and Scotland, Orangemen are a group of loyalist Protestants known for their discrimination against Irish Catholics and nationalists, and thus would be offensive to they typical attendee on an Irish Heritage Night. That was the joke. Now it is explained. Now it's not funny. Perhaps it never was.

Oh, it was funny....when the ROI soccer team unveiled an all orange third strip a few years back it caused all sorts of silly commotions.

It was/is funny. I just see everything Orange as only Syracuse-related.

I got it Willets, and I thought it was a good joke.
Orange was explained to me by my good buddy Mike Murphy who wears orange every St Patricks Day. He just wears it because he is Protestant, not because he is a radical. He's an Irishman to the core
