G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 The Mets attempt to even their lifetime record on Chicago's South Side to 2-2 when they return to the baddest part of town Tuesday night for the first time in eleven years. White Sox better just beware of a man named Andrew Brown.Oh, and another man named Zachary Harrison Wheeler.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Does everybody wearing the same color to the game actually intimidate the opposition or rally the home team?

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 The big blotch of orange is always a treat.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 This day in baseball via Tumblr. Very kool they go with the UMD scorecard.June 25, 1989The Mets beat Philadelphia 5-1 without recording a single defensive assist. The Phillies were retired on 13 strikeouts, 12 flyouts and two ground balls to first. The feat tied a major league record set by the Cleveland Indians in 1945.*Scorecard copyright retrosheet.org http://this-day-in-baseball.tumblr.com/post/53836916232/june-25-1989-the-mets-beat-philadelphia-5-1

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 This might have been a good day to start Young at second, and get Lutz and Brown both in the lineup rather than have Valdespin face Sale.Lefties have a .615 OPS against Greg Burke. Lefties have a .732 OPS against Josh Edgin.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Jeff Keppinger: DH. Yup, that Jeff Keppinger.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 This might have been a good day to start Young at second, and get Lutz and Brown both in the lineup rather than have Valdespin face Sale.My theory is that managers tend to be former marginal infielders, and while they are quick to assume that any infielder that can play the outfield, they tend not to trust hybrid outfielders-who-are-part-time-infielders in the infield, unless they gotta. Nor do they quickly trust former infielders who've been playing outfield, or even guys who were virtually exclusive infielders in the minors, but in a pinch, debuted in the outfield at the major league level. They had nothing recommending them as ballplayers except their modest ability to play second, and a big chunk of their self-image is predicated on maintaining the notion that this was and is a rare and precious skill, and a charge that you don't just trust anybody with.Terry Collins, Jerry Manuel, Willie Randolph, Art Howe, Bobby Valentine --- the last five managers were infielders, mostly with secondbase as the largest part of their portfolio. It's a natural impulse to not let fakirs play their position.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Why does MLB.tv give me the option to switch broadcasts when, invariably, only one is available?Nothing personal, Hawk Harrelson, but...
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Young leads off with a double and then lightening strikes and knocks out a bunch of lights. Game delayed?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Manager in the other dugout looks like Robin Ventura, but older.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Wow, Young seemed to have no business running on what was essentially a popout. Teufel, I'd've guessed, had no business letting him.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Wow. Young steals third and ChiSox catcher throws to first to try and get Wright. But David has his head in the game. And then Young tags on a shallow fly and he flies in before a tag!Wright steals second! Whats all this then?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Satin drives in Wright with a grassnubber up the middle. After one half 2-0 Mets!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Four decades into the "experiment" and now sixteen years into inter-league play, I still find myself unprepared when I see a 'DH' in the lineup.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Good thing they got to Sale early, because he seems locked in now. Any more runs may have to be similarly scratched out.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Shit. Flowers blooms one off Wheeler.Tied 2-2.You're right about Sale. He's found a groove that must be ungrooved.Nice play by Satin on a bad hop grounder. Very nice.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Got the out-of-town video feed somehow synched to Josh and Howie.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I am seeing nothing but bad hops on the right side of that infield. Dunn tries to wack Zack but Laggy gets back and keeps things on track.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 We've got to bunt against this guy, just to get his defense moving around.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Mets outfielders are spending a lot of time on the track.
