Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 The thing about Duda at first, he can make up for his bad hands by being so close to the base he gets another chance.

Guest vtmet Guests Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 prior to tonight's 2 doubles and a single; Lagares was hitting .286 with 2 doubles and a triple in his last 9 starts...

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Torres with another nice inning pitched. I'm liking Torres. I'm liking Met things. This is good.

For reference, Duda's OPS is .793It seems like he's starting to get it.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 OMG I shoulda been an ump. I thought you had to be good at umping to be one. That's not the case because 75% of the umps I see SUCK.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Never seen anything like that ... ump gets call right and then reverses call for seemingly no reason??
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Kong76 wrote:Never seen anything like that ... ump gets call right and then reverses call???Whats with that? he did a BIG safe wave, and as the throw is going to first he punches him out. How can you even do that?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 The big Howard stands between us and a win.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Bobby P shuts the door on the big guy! Gj Parnell. Good game!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I have no idea what to make of that call (callS really) at 2nd. I'd be throwing things around the room right now if that turned out to make a difference in the game, and it quite easily could have.Lagares was the star of the game both offensively and defensively.Three more not just scoreless but hitless innings for the NYM Pen.

The guy had to have some kind of reason to reverse that. A reason that can be seen or at least understood.

I know it can be a bitch. And there are assholes like that parent everywhere. That's amature ball. What I'm saying is that its the major leagues. The guys with that gig should be the cream of the crop. The best in the business. How do these guys who are just so bad get to this level?
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Watching the highlights of this game on the Philadelphia news sports report was fun
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I think the Phillies announcers may be the least informed about the Mets (and, I assume, other Phillies opponents) than any other crew.

I've been asked to ump my son's little league games and it is easily the most stressful thing you can do on a baseball field. As a player/fan/coach/parent I think I have a pretty good idea of what the right call is. The minute you're asked to be the decision maker the ability to make this distinction magically disappears (at least for me). One game I was asked to ump was particularly bad. In a league where even catching the ball is rare, there were about seven or eight bang-bang plays, including one to end a one-run game. On some of them, I was just blindly guessing. Afterwards I asked a buddy of mine (whose son is on the same team) if I was anywhere near right. He said I was a great ump, spreading my blown calls evenly over both sides.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 They spent a few minutes going over the reverse call on Baseball Tonight last night. They showed it, said it was odd, showed it from a bunch of angles, wondered why the ump did what he did, and then moved on. No interest in talking to a manager,a player, maybe even the ump himself to clarify things. And they opened the show going over Showalters tossing and the bad call involved with that. Seemed like a perfect time to talk about both. I love how Buck turned around and tossed all the umps.
